FireChan Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 Meh was much more valuable to us in the off-season. Now that we know TT can play and EJ seems to have turned a corner, Meh was completely dispensable. I think DW is looking at this as a chance to hedge the loss of what he gave up originally for Meh (which, at the time, was a good trade-- because we had nothing at QB). Additionally, my guess is that Meh is maybe a slight upgrade as a backup to the other guys the Cowboys were looking at (e.g., Ponder). So the Cowboys probably aren't desperaate for him. Eh, win now mode, and we trade our back up for a 5th rounder? Kinda odd.
playman Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 (edited) So in the past 14 days we have cut cassel, signed him, started him, and traded him. must be some kind of record i guess Edited September 22, 2015 by playman
BuffaloHokie13 Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 @AlbertBreer: Terms: The Bills sent QB Matt Cassel and a 2017 seventh-round pick to the Cowboys for a 2017 fifth-round pick. I'm cool with that. I wonder if the conditions turn that 5th into a 4th or a 6th and what the conditions are
Ohiostyle Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 ESPN just said it was a 2017 5th rounder. Is anything confirmed from an official source, or is it all social media speculation at this point?
Maury Ballstein Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 Eh, win now mode, and we trade our back up for a 5th rounder? Kinda odd. Win now mode hasn't happened w meh on the field in half a decade.
YoloinOhio Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 wow-- that is super value. Great job, dougie!! ok like the 5th
BringBackOrton Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 (edited) This trade doesn't make sense to me. It's very odd. We expect the playoffs this year, yet giveaway a top experienced backup QB for a late round pick in 2017. The depth chart at QB is now weaker. And don't give me the EJ is better rebuttal, he's been in street clothes for a reason. He would have been dressed week 1 and 2, if the coaches thought EJ was competent enough and a better fit to backup TT. The only explanation is that Cassel demanded this and wanted out. playman Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 a 5th can net us another karlos. so great deal
The Poojer Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 worth repeating @ESPNStatsInfo: Cowboys acquire Matt Cassel. His 34.6 Total QBR since '12 is 4th-lowest (min. 500 action plays). Lowest QBR since '12...Brandon Weeden, 26.1
Miyagi-Do Karate Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 As I think more about this, I am surprised it was a 2017 pick. The NFL "value" on a pick two years from now has got to be much lower. Wish we could have gotten a 2016 pick.
Solomon Grundy Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 They shoulda traded Duke Williams too!!!
KRT88 Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 (edited) Maybe they traded Cassel and a 7th for a 5th Edited September 22, 2015 by KRT88
The Poojer Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 not sure if you saw this, that doesn't scream 'top' to me @ESPNStatsInfo: Cowboys acquire Matt Cassel. YoloinOhio Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 @ChrisTrapasso: Rate it how you will: #Bills traded a 5th and 7th to #Vikings for Matt Cassel and a 6th. Then traded him to #Cowboys for a 5th.
KRT88 Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 Maybe they traded Cassel and a 7th for a 5th Terms: The Bills sent QB Matt Cassel and a 2017 seventh-round pick to the Cowboys for a 2017 fifth-round pick. 3:52 PM - 22 Sep 2015 I was only guessing too
Lurker Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 @ChrisTrapasso: Rate it how you will: #Bills traded a 5th and 7th to #Vikings for Matt Cassel and a 6th. Then traded him to #Cowboys for a 5th. So in other words, we traded a dollar for a buck. Cool...

Then traded him to #Cowboys for a 5th. So, the Meh arbitrage basically netted us an upgrade from a 7th to a 6th when all is said and done.
