Rubes Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 I noticed on Carpenter's miss that the ball was snapped from the left hashmark. Later in the game, after another Bills TD, it was the same thing. Earlier, I had noticed that the Pats*** were kicking their XP from the middle of the field. What's the rule on this? I thought every XP would be snapped from the middle of the field, as always.
Pete Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 interesting observation. Could it be up to the kicker where the ball is placed?

apuszczalowski Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 I'm curious as to how quickly Doug and rex have some more kicking tryouts this week. They already were looking at possible replacements a few weeks ago and after the xp miss it looked like they werent going to trust him with another attempt
eSJayDee Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 I've seen it, too. Doesn't seem to correlate to where the TD was scored from, so I assume it's based on kicker/team choice. For a right-footed kicker, it's easier to kick from the left hash.

As always, they'll have the choice between either hashmark or the middle of the field.

Something like 20% of PATs have been missed this far in this season. Carpenter is about average.

pepsicat17 Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 Rex said in his presser there was a problem with the hold and not Carpenters fault.

I'm sure the 'PATs are automatic and boring' crowd is thrilled with this and looking forward to more games being decided by a failed PAT.

Yeah I hate the new rule it's stupid. We pretty much lost the game on failed PATs (sort of. If we made some of the 2 Pts and the regular one, it would've been a lot closer)

And I'd bet my house it'll happen to the Bills long before it happens to NE.
Tuco Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 You always have the choice of where to snap the extra point from, as long as it's between the hash marks. Even if you're going for 2.
Miyagi-Do Karate Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 Separate issue: we missed the first one. Why go down the road of trying for 2 every time after that to make it up? We failed on both 2-pointers-- that could have been huge. If we had just kicked them, then we score 34 points and we have the ball at the end down 6 with a chance to win.
eSJayDee Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 Why go down the road of trying for 2 every time after that to make it up? When you're down by 24, the thought of getting 4 scores, ie 3 TDs & a FG is EXTREMELY unlikely. Who knew we'd score 3 straight TDs w/ time to spare.

I am in that group. I would have been fine with eliminating it altogether as well. Just make the touchdown 7 with the option to go for an extra point to make it 8, but if you miss you also lose a point. Boring play that was just about automatic. , what was the point of it.

Hmm, I never thought of it that way, with the chance of losing a point if you don't make it. I like that idea.
