Mark Vader Posted September 19, 2015 Author Posted September 19, 2015 Mob movie? Johnny Depp? These are a few of my favorite things The rest? Meh I also like it when Johnny Depp is in movies like these.
Miyagi-Do Karate Posted September 19, 2015 Posted September 19, 2015 Lot of good movies here. Re Everest, I wonder if that is based on Jon Krakauer's "into thin air," which is an awesome book. My wife has been wanting to see "captive" and I think "the intern" could be a really well done movie, in light of the previews I have seen and the cast. I have also heard great things about "the visit" and m. Night making a comeback-- which would be great.

It looks like it is more spectacle than story, despite the good cast. I do want to see "The Visit" as well.

That is a really good book-- probably in my top-10 favorites. Krakauer was basically along for the trek to do an article on mountain climbing, and got caught up in a deadly climb, with at least 2 or 3 people dying near the peak. So, he had firsthand knowledge of everything.
Maury Ballstein Posted September 19, 2015 Posted September 19, 2015 Anne Hathaway has her fastball back. Im in on that.
DC Tom Posted September 19, 2015 Posted September 19, 2015 Lot of good movies here. Re Everest, I wonder if that is based on Jon Krakauer's "into thin air," which is an awesome book. Yes, from what I've heard. It makes me leery of it. Into Thin Air is a great book, but it's to no small degree a catharsis for Krakauer's survivor's guilt. It's one of the reasons it's such a great book, in fact - his other books I've read lack the same visceral emotion - but it's difficult to translate that to the screen without becoming melodramatic or pandering. And if they don't try to translate it...like Vader said, more spectacle than story.
unbillievable Posted September 19, 2015 Posted September 19, 2015 So we've entered the time when studios dump their pet projects for oscar consideration. I hope Chris O'donnel does a cameo in Everest. M Knight shayamalan goes back to his roots. The Scorch sounds like a fraternity hazing ritual. How many days until Star Wars?
Deranged Rhino Posted September 19, 2015 Posted September 19, 2015 How many days until Star Wars? 89 Days, 47 minutes, 10 seconds. http://www.howmanydaysuntilstarwars.com/
DC Tom Posted September 19, 2015 Posted September 19, 2015 89 Days, 47 minutes, 10 seconds. http://www.howmanydaysuntilstarwars.com/ Just can't get excited for it. Not after the last three. Thanks Lucas, you shitburger.
Deranged Rhino Posted September 19, 2015 Posted September 19, 2015 Just can't get excited for it. Not after the last three. Thanks Lucas, you shitburger. I can understand that. I'm curious to see how it plays. I expect it to be quite excellent as I like JJ's stuff and this is his favorite movie universe so I expect him to do it proud rather than destroy it. But I've also read a lot of articles saying how taxing the production has been between dealing with on set injuries to Disney execs being too hands on for Abrams tastes. Not sure if those are all true but I would see this movie regardless so I'm all in.
dbmu1977 Posted September 19, 2015 Posted September 19, 2015 Saw the visit the other night, the kids and the granparents were very entertaining. The story has a big twist in it. The lady who plays the granny is wacky as hell. Wife and I enjoyed it.

USMCBillsFan Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 I want to check out Eli Roth's new horror flick "The Green Inferno".

Dante Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 (edited) I'm not that excited about "Everest". It looks like it is more spectacle than story, despite the good cast. I do want to see "The Visit" as well. We saw it opening weekend and it was a fun movie. I thought it was well cast and acted. Both grandparents were perfect and the kids were solid. Very creepy at times and a good sense of humor at the right time. For the creepy factor this one looks good. Probably be a Netflix watch Edited September 21, 2015 by Dante
Miyagi-Do Karate Posted September 26, 2015 Posted September 26, 2015 Looks like krakauer is ripping apart Everest as being fake. https://www.yahoo.com/movies/s/author-jon-krakauer-everest-total-bull-014948171.html

shrader Posted October 2, 2015 Posted October 2, 2015 I saw Black Mass last weekend and found it to be very disappointing. They spent very little time showing us what he was doing outside of randomly killing someone, so you didn't get any feel for what if any kind of power he had around the area. It left me wanting to watch a good mafia movie like Goodfellas.
