Bill Polian says Colts had first-round draft grade on Tom Brady

Bill Polian was enshrined last month into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

During his career, the vastly successful general manager turned the Bills, Panthers and Colts into winners. His induction into Canton certainly was helped by the career of Peyton Manning, but Polian revealed this week that Indianapolis also had eyes on another quarterback.

Tom Brady.

Didn't think any team had him graded that high coming out of Michigan.

 Yeah, why such secrecy?

If the horseshoes really rated him that highly why would they let him slip through 5 rounds? Seems to me if you are in the 5th round, even with Peyton as your QB, you would take the guy for depth.

bull ****. They drafted QB Paul Miranda with the first pick of the 4th round. So they took a QB in the 4th, but someone other than the guy they graded a 1st round pick?

Paul Miranda was a CB that the Colts selected in the 1999 draft. Brady was taken in the 2000 draft.

But it's still bull ****. There was nothing in his college career to suggest he would be any good and as a result no one had a grade higher than 6th round on him, otherwise he'd have been taken before then.

Baloney. Brady, while certainly not a top one or two round pick out of college, was still excellent. The reason he fell so far is because he was built like a !@#$ing doughboy, which caused teams to question his dedication and work ethic.

Isn't this like Chip Kelly saying he OBJ rated #1 overall on his board? It sounds great but there is no way to know if he's just patting himself on the back for a draft pick he never made.

On the other hand, we do know that Whaley tried to trade up for Carlos Hyde. So sometimes real draft stuff does get out.

If he had been excellent, he'd have been taken far higher than the end of the 6th round. It's not like any of the other QB's drafted ahead of his were physical specimens.
