Bill Burr Talking Bills

Love Bill Burr. Love that he shared his feelings.

If anyone listens to Rob Kelly, another fellow comedian from the Boston area/ good friends with Burr, believes New Englanders have had decades of being spoiled and don't remember those awful years in the 70's-90's.

Overall, in his act, he explains he has mentally prepared himself that era will end and decades of horrendous play will follow bringing forth a new era in sad, drunken, depressive sports fandom.

This is referencing "Ya Know What, Dude...", right? Is that any good? I guess I have heard it's decent, I just haven't looked into it yet.

I don't condone the behavior but Cheats* fans coming to the Ralph are taking chances of exposing themselves to this kind of stupidity. Watch the game on TV if you really want to avoid the possibility of this behavior. At least don't wear Cheats* gear go neutral.

I used to go to Foxboro every year for the Bills game during the glory years. I was obnoxious, in Bills gear, and lucky nobody beat the crap out of me!

I knew somebody who was walking out of a MNF football game in Miami that the Bills had won - and some ahole Fins fan just coldcocked him and broke his nose. He wasn't saying anything - only had a Bills jersey on.

Does anybody know why on his podcasts, he'll do that weird voice when I think he's pronouncing an "r" or something, and sometimes yells off mic?

I don't really find it funny but don't know the background of it.

Yeah, he always does that. Probably just to break the monotony.

Holy crap. Bill Burr is now doing a Howard Stern act? He even has his own Robin Givens. Very strange, to me. What a sad state for a great comic like this to have to do a freaking podcast of--well, just babbling. Please tell me Louis C K hasn't devolved to this.

Don't get me wrong. I thought it was fairly funny. Not nearly as funny as his well constructed stand-up. Had he polished this turd up a bit, it would have been absolutely hysterical. But people listen to an hour of this disjointed ranting? Wow. I mean, if you are with him, drinking and doing a bit or ranting yourself, I'm sure it's extremely funny. But not as "professional" entertainment. He is far too talented for this kind of BS, IMO.

Let me be clear, I have NO problem with him trashing Buffalo or the Bills. I think anything and everything is fair game---if it's funny. And it was funny enough. I'm more worried about the beginning of the show, when he says he hadn't had a drink for seventy some days---but got faced last night. Perhaps I'm off base here, but I think it's unlikely someone purposefully gives up ALL drinking for more that two months, unless they are concerned they have a problem. Yes, there are some exceptions for health, religious reasons, etc. But I'm getting the impression this was a "I have a problem" stoppage--or hiatus.

Burr is one of my very favorite stand-up comics. I seriously hope we aren't reading about him having some serious problems in the near future.

This is so annoyingly condescending, yet you have no clue what you're talking about.

He's been doing the Monday Morning Podcast for a while now. It's a huge hit and one of the reasons his fan base is as strong as it is. It keeps him relevant and can be really funny at times. His answers to emails are gold. I don't like what he said about the Bills either, but good god man, get off your high horse.

What he said about the Bills has nothing to do with what I think about this. I think babbling on a tired format (like Stern) without properly polishing and constructing a set compromises his comic genius. I'm a culture snob, I admit this freely.

And the stuff about him getting drunk after taking seventy some days off, is dead ass serious. Unless he was kidding about that.

And, let's be clear. I worked in the entertainment industry for 20+ years. I have some idea what I'm talking about.

The way you can tell bbb's story is fake is that it implies the fins have a fan.

It's always been free-flowing and unscripted. That's part of the appeal. Bill Burr is not for culture snobs, he's for a more blue-collar crowd who don't need polished anything.

A few more things I missed in your post, that should have tipped me off to your cultural position:

Huge Hit: Popularity means nothing to me, when it come to judging talent. Justin freaking Bieber is popular. Dane Cook was popular.

Relevant: See above.

Your posts reeks of marketing talk. Maybe soon he will "reinvent himself". Nothing infuriates me more.

Podcasts are ways for comedians to develop material that evolves into being the polished bits you see in his specials. Twitter is the same way. You're not being charged for it. Being shocked that an off-the-cuff podcast isn't the same as a fully polished hour of material doesn't make you sound like a culture snob, it simply makes you sound old.

I was going to say the same thing. It keeps their name and material out there, especially in the lulls between developing one-hour sets and a new special.

They're not my cup of tea, and I agree they can be rambling, but I totally get why comedians do podcasts. They're dirt cheap to produce and distribute. Take on a few sponsors and they can break even or even make a few bucks. And occasionally they can lay waste to those same sponsors and make comedic gold.

Exactly. I am old, but I understand the business. This is a cheap (in cost, and I believe in effort) way to make some cash while they develop material. And, they can entertain those easily entertained and/or amused (well, come to think of it, that sounds like me  ).

Some comics do it the hard way, by doing crappy clubs and, you know, working. This is a much easier gig. And let's face it, it's cheap, and it sounds cheap. Plus the format with this sidekick is OLD and TIRED. Like a radio shock jock. Never could stand that crap.

He tours nonstop and does this. He's a top 5 comedian and prints money. If you listened weekly there's no way you wouldn't laugh your ass off.

Top 5. Seinfeld, Burr, CK, Maniscalco, Hart

I listen to probably 20% of what he puts out there with his podcasts. I listen to some, and usually not all the way through (I should start when he reads emails and listen to it from there on).

It seems to me that he had been planning on quitting drinking and coming back to it. He seems to do that every now and then.

He is a fitness freak (that stuff bores me when he goes on and on with that), so I can never tell if he thinks he's got a problem or he just wants to cut calories.

Bill Burr is a national treasure. I think the podcast is particularly good, because it highlights his ability to be conversationally funny. Podcasts as a medium are different in that way, and can allow comedians who aren't built for doing routine material to be funny, and get the needed notoriety. Bill Burr is one who happens to do both really well.
