Pick plays only work against specific coverages. Even Rex said this week that the coverages they run pick plays wouldn't work.

If you look at the plays the Pats** ran picks on the Steelers CBs are in press man coverage. The CBs are aligned the same distance away from the Pats** WR. If the Steelers would have staggered their alignment, the pick play doesn't work.

I went back into my post and dug up that link that Yolo had posted. The first clip Edelman totally does an illegal pick. The second one with Gronk-it was close but it looks more like a block to me. When we see this play someone has to slide over and pinch off the sideline area. Edelman isnt good-he just has a system that gives him the easy play. I certainly dont see him running good routes.

Very nice analysis I want to stop there bs pick dink and dunk crap. If we stop that and make Brady hold the ball longer-meaning receivers actually have to run real routes then we can pound on him.

Theres a gray area that forces officials to judge intent.

I will play devils advocate here - if you are running a play where the offenses goal is to get so close to a defender that you disrupt him from covering his man, with contact between te offensive and defensive players....... Isn't that plenty of "intent" right there???

Like DUH the O did it on purpose!!!

Being more serious, I know full well what is a legal and illegal pick and while I'm sure it's near impossible to get that call correct in real time, it sure seems that teams like the cheaters get a lot more calls in their favor than a team like the bills.

I guess the grey area is my problem. The NfL needs to change rules to take pressure off the refs. The whole idea that they can view these picks and infer intent is impossible. How about if there is contact between a crossing O guy and a crossing D guy it's a penalty on the O. Period, no questions asked. The O design their routes- it should be on them. Don't run your guys so closely together if you want to avoids this contact. Changes to the rules like This would make the game much more fairly officiated- and officiating is the biggest problem with the nFL these days.

That only works if the bills do a good job in that coverage. Remember the TD or maybe 2 pt conversion Indy had, the WRs crossed right off te LOS. Our outside DB stayed outside assuming the DBS were going to switch who they were covering. The inside DB ran outside with that WR showing no intent to switch. The WR who lined up on the outside and ran the slant to the inside went uncovered and scored. Aaron Williams was visibly upset with who I believe was Rambo who blew the coverage.

Good points, but no one here actually cares about the pick plays, man. It's really just another opportunity to whine about the Patriots.

Hmmmmm. The reason I started this post was to link a well-written article for the football fans who like X's and O's as to what the current rules are, what is legal and what isn't.

I love to study the game, and have never understood these rub/pick plays. The patriots do get called for illegal picks sometimes, its a staple of their offense and they do it well.

The post is informative, you're the one who's whining.

My bad, you did start with a neutral post (and a good one)...that immediately turned into a Patriots whine.

PATRIOT FAN KILL IT WITH FIRE

Ohhell yes i laughed heartily !!!

I would prefer that they would be illegal. It would be easier to officiate than the other way around, I think.

And would be safer for the unaware defensive player.

Good point.

That site is run by a Pat* fan trying to misdirect people from the Pat* may scandals. Read their reviews carefully and you will see their ratings are BS.

But to the pick play issue, yes, everyone runs some pick plays. The Pats* run a LOT of them. Some of them (many?) should be flagged, and they aren't being called. The Bills would be stupid to not bring this to the ref's attentions. And the publicity this issue is getting this week, should bring some more attention on them, this week (unless of course, they have an inside cheat with the NFL).

and there's the rub..
