BUFFALOTONE Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 well then you obviously don't follow this team because they asked him about it after the game and he said he doesn't care as long as they are winning the game. But hey, armchair players/gms/owners always know more then the players themselves The Bills didn't have to throw to watkins while he was covered by one of the better CB's in the league because they were successful throwing to his teammates. I'm waiting for the next win where Harvin gets 3 looks and fans here will be throwing tantrums again asking why we obtained someone like Harvin if we aren't going to use him! Watkins hasn't been a bust, it's not like they are throwing the ball to him and he can't catch the throws, they just have others who are making the easier catches taking the pressure off an inexperienced QB from having to force throws in to Watkins. Other top WRs get those throws now that they are established and because the team needs to get the ball to them cause they don't have another reliable option Where to start? I have been a fan for 35 years, I follow this team religiously like I am sure the majority of the posters here do. I never called him a bust, they asked him after the game if he was happy, of course hes going to toe the line and I'm sure he was. But my initial response reads "PLAYING DEVIL'S ADVOCATE". I am not panicking by any stretch, WRs by nature want the ball and can get bent out of shape if they don't get a few looks. To go 0-0 is pretty rare by any stretch.....I agree with you on forcing throws, it is nice to see a cerebral and talented QB for a change.

You got it right. Never mind. Uh...good job!

NoSaint Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 When does it stop? Are we going to get a Clay is over paid thread every week he doesn't have an impactful game when someone else does like Sammy? What about if we throw it all game and McCoy has to do very little? Or again when the rest of the team comes up big and Sammy is relatively quiet again? i think theres a pretty huge gap between "not impactful" and not really doing anything to get them involved. i didnt see much to get sammy involved. if it was 3-4 well designed targets for him, i wouldnt have thought to say anything even if he ended up with 1 catch for 13 yards and a run for 7.

Could've been a few planned for the 2nd half before we went up 24-0 and shut it down
26CornerBlitz Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 @viccarucci #Bills coaches are not concerned that @sammywatkins was shutout vs. #Colts. http://bit.ly/1V0Pac9
BillsFan-4-Ever Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 my 2 cents Let them cover Sammy with their best guy. That makes it easier for the other guys catching passes.

Nanker Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 normal cost is one pick...we had to give two additional picks. So he cost us TWO ADDITIONAL PICKS. This thread is becoming much like "Who's on first"??? I strongly agree with the original poster. It cost us two picks to get the pick that allowed us to take him. We used that pick to get him. So it's Symantecs. Four sure. But if you add all the numbers up in my first four sentences it clearly equals seven. It gets confusing, I know. But this guy better start producing or the OP will be contacting Kromer with his own contract on Sammy.
BillnutinHouston Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 Its clear the coaching staff thinks Harvin is the playmaker on offense, not Sammy. You're joking, right?

NoSaint Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 Could've been a few planned for the 2nd half before we went up 24-0 and shut it down its very possible. im not losing sleep over it, but think its worth mention in the aftermath of the game is all. if it becomes semi-regular, id not be happy.
thebandit27 Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 @viccarucci #Bills coaches are not concerned that @sammywatkins was shutout vs. #Colts. http://bit.ly/1V0Pac9 Pretty much falls in line with what I felt I saw from the stands. He was getting open, but wasn't necessarily the first read. A lot times, in the pre-snap reads, the QB will eliminate 1 or 2 passing options from his progression so as to limit how long he needs to hold the ball. Roman may have told Taylor that if Sammy is doubled, they love the other match-ups, so he should eliminate Sammy's route from the progression. I don't agree with that as a long-term philosophy, but if that's the case, then it makes sense why Taylor might have missed him a few times that he was open.
Nanker Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 (edited) I absolutely disagree with the original poster. Sammy is the best wide receiver we've had in 20 years. He was hired by The Bills to play football for them not for your fantasy team. Too bad for you that you drafted him. He doesn't owe you anything. What's next? People will complain that The Bills are winning by big enough margins? It's anti-virus software? God, I hope that was autocorrect. Nope. Intentional. Just regressing toward the mean. I think the more appropriate discussion should be - when will the coaches trust TT to make the tighter throws that a better covered Watkins will require? The more I hear the coaches' explanation of the Sammy goose egg, the more they're admitting that the training wheels are still on TT. “I’m his coach,” Lal said of Watkins. “I was very critical on the film” review. “He ran some very good routes and was open quite a bit. The lay person might say, ‘Oh, Vontae shut him down.’ Well, that’s not the case. Now their scheme was very good to not so much take him out of the game, but make it harder to throw over there. And when so much was open on the other side, we were like, ‘Why should we?’ Because our big thing with Rex and” offensive coordinator “Greg” Roman “is we want to play smart football, and smart football was just taking what they give us. But he ran some really good routes. And right now they're right. No reason to spring unforced errors on Tyrod when there are safer options that also lead to scores. This is indeed working out like Russell Wilson's rookie season, except that Wilson didn't have as good of a supporting cast around him.
jumbalaya Posted September 18, 2015 Author Posted September 18, 2015 I'm confused, is the OP complaining he doesn't catch enough balls or doesn't do enough with the catches he has made? If it's the latter, over the 10 game stretch, as you correctly pointed out, Sammy Watkins has had 30 receptions. What you didn't point out was that those 30 receptions went fro 549 yards. That's 18.3 YPC, which would have been good for 2nd in the NFL in 2014. If your complaining that he doesn't get enough catches, I would hope you realize he isn't the guy designing game plans and he isn't the guy throwing the ball. He can't throw the ball to himself. Should he be getting the ball more? No doubt he's an explosive player but that's Romans job to get him the ball. Sammy gets open, watch the all-22, Tyrod and Roman just have to go his way. I am complaining it is 55 yards a game. Hardly a #1 pick material.
thebandit27 Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 I am complaining it is 55 yards a game. Hardly a #1 pick material. Watch the games... ...it helps.
Maury Ballstein Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 I am complaining it is 55 yards a game. Hardly a #1 pick material. Total 4th round talent fo sho.
jumbalaya Posted September 18, 2015 Author Posted September 18, 2015 Somebody said stats don't lie. Sammy's stats suck for a #4 pick that cost 2 no 1's and a 4th. Guess half the board doesn't want to believe that. His stats are Roscoe Parrish-like, not Eric Moulds-like. I hope he kicks it in this week. If not, he's is just another guy with potential.
