PFF ranks Taylor #32 starting QB

I think 32 is fair. He hasn't done anything yet.

My prediction is that TT is about to become very overrated by the national press.

The Bills offense is going to be good and maybe very good. TT will put up good numbers especially completion percentage and YPA which will boost his QB rating. But it will be mostly the result of Roman and the skill players and the OL and not TT himself, who I believe will play decent.

But if you have a great defense putting you in good field position, good ST, good offensive coaching, and our skill players, all you have to be is decent and you will look very good.

All our QB needs to do is not suck and he should put up numbers. Unless our line tanks and I just don't see it.

TT is about to have articles written about how good he is that he likely will not really deserve.

Unless instead of just decent he plays good or very good. Then our offense will explode. I don't really predict that though.

The national press and fans in general are underestimating just how good Watkins, Woods, Harvin, Clay, McCoy, Felton, Hogan and Goodwin are, combined with a guy who knows how to use them.

Though I said its reality and what the "experts" think he should be, IMO 32 really isn't what he should be. I'd start out at best mid 20's.

Other than Bills Fandom and a smattering of Ravens players & Fans TT has not done much to warrant a high grade again by the so called the "experts".

You have to ignore these preseason guessed and ratings. At most you can come back next week and laugh it off.

Now, if the Bills start of 2-0, yes I too can see TT become very overrated by the national press. That is not a dog on TT, its what I see as realistic.

The homer in me can see 12 wins this season but I also see that with either TT or EJ as QB. I'd go 10 wins with Cassel as starter. Safe is boring and boring = Kyle Orton play.

I don't care about any of these rankings, but they do make for good discussion. After watching him in preseason and reading a lot about him, I have a better feeling about Tyrod than I have had about any Bills QB since Kelly. He is a great athlete and he is a winner. It also helps that he will be working with some talented teammates and the first professional coaching staff the Bills have assembled in almost 20 years. I think the Bills have found their franchise QB in a most unlikely way. Tyrod is going to light it up, starting this Sunday.

Yeah, I agree with this, especially the last part, in particular how the media underestimates Watkins. The guy is a bonafide superstar who was injured last year and was involved in a rudimentary offensive system. If healthy he's going to break out in a big way.

If we're being honest, TT is a pretty risky pick. I like it because I think his running ability will give us an edge, it's an exciting choice, he's from VT, and he actually won the spot with his performance, but I don't think you can ever consider going into the season with a 6th round pick who's never started an NFL game at QB as an ideal situation.

Certainly his worst year as a pro. Take Orton's stats and add 25% (to cover 16 games). I bet they are better than Kaep last year (I didn't check though).

Edit: Orton extrapolated over 16 games - 3,773 yards 22.5 TDs 12.5 INT.

Yikes ! Not a good reflection on Kaep. I think the 49ers will have a terrible year.

roddy white was talking on fantasy xm yesterday talking about how atl used to play bal in the scrimmages and tt would come out and just ball against them. He likes tt and thinks he can make some noise. Nice to see a guy who has seen him play talk him up. He doesn't need to be the game breaker. Just don't turn over and put up 21 points a game.

A 7 page thread says several of us care including you and me.

No, I posted (now for the third time in this thread) to state I actively, vehemently, don't care where PFF ranks the NFL QBs.

This is especially meaningless for QBs who have yet to really play an NFL game. How can they possibly rank Mariota, Winston or even Tyrod? A more intelligent approach, IMO, would to simply not rank these QBs, since there isn't enough real information on them.

theyve seen them play lower levels, have measurables etc... i dont think its crazy to include them, but i do think anyone that hangs on every ranking that comes out is crazy.

What does TT have on his professional resume?

He's looked good in preseason. So have a lot of other failed QBs over the years. Playing against vanilla defenses and 2nd stringers can do that for a young QB.

I hope TT becomes the next Russel Wilson. But right now you can't blame the national media for being skeptical.

The Dean suggests that it would be more intelligent not to rank a QB who doesn't have meaningful NFL experience. This is true, but the media isn't about intelligence. It's about having an audience and making money. For them, having a controversial (or, even, an ill-informed) opinion is better than having no opinion at all.

Tyrod gets huge support from the guys who actually play the game, including both current and former players, some big name guys like Ray Lewis. Nate Burleson says the week one matchup he is most interested in is Bills/Colts because of the QB matchup. He gives Tyrod high marks. Michael Robinson insists Tyrod has what it takes to succeed. He is unequivocal in his view.

I think they know what they are talking about and I have more confidence in their opinions than I do that of bean counters and media types who have never seen the field or been in a huddle.

But this is a PFF ranking that should be all about numbers vs. hype. Dean's suggestion of no ranking under a certain sample size makes perfect sense to me.
