Aren't they all NFL opponents?

Just kidding, Yolo. i know what you meant.

oops! Fixed lol

To be truthful, I like Schwartz D better - the consistent defensive master. Rex's gambling instincts that will give up the 30 yd gain IMHO take an all-world D (especially 2ndary) to execute properly.

But as long as we win, I'm all for it. And if we don't win, at least make freaking adjustments at halftime if something isn't working,

i am the same in that I do not care at all about where the D ranks across the league or how many sacks we have, etc. I only care if we win. The fact that he knows the division so well is very much a good thing.

Rex was 4-8 agaisnt NE, including 1-7 his last 4 years with the the Jets...

Yup. I believe Rex is the most overrated HC in the history of the NFL based on his entire body of work. If it wasn't for his straight forward personality and media antics, he would be just another guy and more than likely a DC candidate.

Where is this misconception coming from? His record against AFC east teams proves otherwise.

How did that 4-8 record compare with the other coaches in the AFC East or around the league against the Pats?

that he knows the division well? Because he has coached in it for 6 years.

Schwartz didn't have much success against Aaron Rodgers all those years in the NFC north but clearly he had a clue what to do when it came to creating a game plan against him with a different team.

Do you really think Rex doesn't have any knowledge of the AFC east?

Yes he has played against all the AFC east teams many times. And has lost many times.

isn't it always about talent AND coaching?

Are we that much more talented defensively? His scheme relies heavily on the CB position, if you can't lock down cover on the outside, the scheme struggles. You cannot tell me anyone on the Bills roster is close to a Revis/Cromartie in their prime level. Look at how the Jets D performed when they were injured and how they performed with a sub par secondary last season.

you can't compare our secondary this year with his secondary last year. He had a former linebacker playing corner. I'm not sure what you mean.

Exactly, he was no better than Marrone, Chan, Philbin, Sporano....

I'm saying the Rex Ryan glory days of defense had CBs that were on another level compared to anybody we have on this roster right now. And that is worrisome when the scheme relies so heavily on man to man outside coverage.

he actually has a number of effective schemes, not all rely on having two shut-down corners.

Though if he has that, he can blitz a lot more. As you see in this article, if he can get pressure with the front 4, he doesn't need to blitz that much.

We play the Pats twice a season. Based on some of the posters here, you'd think beating the Pats twice clinched a Super Bowl berth.

Rex Ryan has a 46-50 career HC record. He hasn't posted an above .500 season since 2010. And his win-loss record against Brady and the Patriots was 3-8 as HC with the Jets.

I happen to agree Rex is way overrated as a HC, based on his performance with the Jets. But I'm praying he turns it around in his second job, as some have before him. So far, I have to admit I'm liking him more than I thought. But we have yet to see the true results.

And clearly he knows the division well. To argue he hasn't done well within it, is something else entirely.

is that including the playoff win at foxboro?

I have no idea how good he will be here but unless he's replacing our players with his players from the last few years I don't see the hand wringing.

This is Rex Ryan we are talking about. Do you think we are going to sit back and rush four, similar to Schwartz's impressive year last season? Rex talks up Gilmore like he is Revis. He is not. We won't be rushing four and we will be leaving our corners on an island. Our defense will be good based on the talent we have overall, but IMO will not be better statistically than 2014 Bills D.

I think everyone likes, and has liked Rex. But the love ran out in NYJ because the wins didn't match the talk for the last 4 years.

sit back and rush four? I don't know. He's never had 2 pass rushers like Mario and Hughes. Do you really care about statistics? I don't. I only care about wins.

Rex is like that Steven Seagal movie where he writes on the mirror "The anticipation of death is worse than death itself."

The anticipation of the blitz is worse than the blitz itself...

I meant, I'm liking what I see from this team under his lead, so far, for the most part. But I admit that we haven't seen anything "real" yet, so I'm holding my breath.

I really don't like the guy, as most people seem to.

Over the past six years, teams have a 25.9% winning percentage against the Pats including the playoffs.

Rex Ryan's record against the Pats during that time is 33.3%

Tom Brady's QBR against the Rex Ryan defense during that time was 61.8 as opposed to 73.4 against the rest of the league.
