I wonder why they won't be going home...

Now that we've established that, why should any country in Europe help a single one of them?

Because doing nothing will not solve the problem nor stem the flow of refugees pouring into their countries. Doing nothing is the only option not available to Europe.

How about rejecting them at the border? It's like Europeans have forgotten what wire, rubber bullets, and tear gas are.

Most of Europe looked like that after WWII

Ha! Comparing these folks to post-war Europeans is bordering on mad.

Here's some before / after pictures of Damascus: http://imgur.com/a/4QAOQ

And how many billions did we spend on the Marshall plan?

($130 billion)

Why is it mad? Both are war torn populations needing to rebuild after being bombed back into the stone age.

Educations, motivations, and intentions vary wildly between the two populations.

You sure about that? I'd say motivations and intentions are the same (survival), both Iraq and Syria had a well educated middle and upper class prior to the conflicts -- so educationally compared to 1946 Europe they are probably ahead of most of eastern Europe...

You should probably rethink this position. The only real difference is one population is largely brown and Muslim while the other was white and not Muslim.

Post-war Europeans wanted to rebuild their home, not flee to a new one. Much less move from one country that's already taken them in to another for the better freebies. And middle and upper class Syrians and Iraqis, for the most part, aren't walking through Hungary at the moment. I'm sure everyone is more than willing to take in those who can contribute in the modern working world. It's the ones who can't even maintain simple irrigation systems they're trying to pass off on one another.

As to your last statement, I know where I stand and silly accusations don't scare me; and when it comes to half-baked Hollywood writers and their opinions of me:

The last statement is the only deduction I can make when you throw out something as wildly inaccurate as: "Educations, motivations, and intentions vary wildly between the two populations." -- especially when it's preceded with a comment like: "It's like Europeans have forgotten what wire, rubber bullets, and tear gas are."

I wasn't comparing them. I was pointing out the difference. Europeans (for the most part) didn't flee. They stayed and rebuilt (with our help).

These folks can't stay until the fighting stops. Fighting the allies either started, abandoned, or ignored depending on how you want to look at it.

Guess now you're racist too.

Remember, Greg: anyone who doubts the false narrative you're being spoon-fed is a big, scawee, waaaayyycist!

I'm not in any way calling you a racist.

And who's being spoon fed the false narrative? The guy who has only added hysteria and fear mongering to the thread? Or the guy pointing out the shortcomings in that narrative?

Hysteria and fear-mongering? My position is consistent with my position on illegal immigration in the US. I suppose Guatemalans and Mexicans are fleeing the war in Syria too?

The fact you're comparing the two different situations is what's so silly. One has nothing to do with the other, each have dramatically different consequences and solutions.

It's not nearly as silly as comparing postwar Europeans to the huddled masses trudging across Hungary at the moment.
