Denali or McKinley? What say ye?

Alaskans love Obama when he steps around Congress? Of course they do... It benefits them!

Ohioians... Bunch of cry-babies.

You gotta be kidding! To name it McKinley was purely a political move back then. Seattle prospector wanting the US to go on the Gold Standard suggests naming it: McKinley after hearing McKinley was nominated. FF to today... Obama steps around Ohio and Congress, via the 1947 uniformity law...

Best comment:

Why don't they name that pimple of a mound, Campbell Hill in Ohio after McKinley!

Honorable mention:

I don't think any city in Ohio is named after McKinley?

Next up... Where does the name Juneau come from... LoL...

Why does Obama care? Why did Obama give two ***** or put his time to this when he has bigger things to worry about, truly?

Cry-Baby... What does the Alaskan contingent say? ...Now that the Ohio delegation has spoken!

Answer: Because Ohio has been stonewalling this since 1974 AND Obama is the first sitting Prez. to step foot in The Final Frontier. Hey, that has a nice ring... I gotta little 4mer in me! ;-)

I have no problem with Mount Denali.

That is what Alaskans want.

As usual the problem is the executive branch ignoring the Legislative branch (peoples representatives)

There is already a bill in Congress to change the name (introduced by Alaskan representatives) Why not just throw your support behind that ?

I think that we all know the answer when it comes to Barack Obama.

Iowahawk suggestion..............................

1. Out: Mount McKinley; in: Mount Denali

2. Out: Animas River; in: Obama River

Guess what... It is what Alaskans want and would never get, thanx to the legislative process. Ohio has been stonewalling it in Congress since 1974. Tucking it away even Bills that die: Which is almost all of them. LoL Just have them keep placing them in Bills from that wackiy Rep from The Toldeo Strip... You know the one that brings up Asian carp Bills in Congress... LMAO OR, make a specific Bill that has a snowballs chance in hell in passing...

If it wasn't for the 1947 uniformity law... It would still and always be: McKinley. Congress didn't need to be consulted... They passed the law in '47 given the Interior the power.

All I can say is: 'Bout time.

I say I want a President that doesn't waste peoples' time and money on such foolishness. Dumbest thing I've seen since the idiots in NYS decided we needed to start calling the Triborough Bridge the "RFK Bridge"

How much money and time is it for the Sec. of Interior to shoot off an order? Lot cheaper than getting a Bill to pass... Thanks Microsoft Office! Do you even think before you post. :-P

I a just giving you sh*t KD... :-)

Really... How much cheaper can it be, time and money to just have King Obama have one of his Minions sign away an order. Isn't that what the 1947 uniformity law is all about? So as not to waste Congress' time (and money).

OHIO: This too shall pass...

They spent millions of dollars to change all the signs on NY highways, you gatortard. It's more than a memo. I won't ask you if you think before you post since I already know the answer.

Holy Moly... Who's calling who a 'tard. So, I take you are FOR the name: McKinley.

It should get changed anyway... Ohio is the one wasting everybody's time and money... And signs were a heck of a lot cheaper in 1974! Anyway... Like most gov't agencies, there is a maintenance plan where old weathered signs get replaced. Did you factor that into the cost Batman?

How 'bout sign recycling? You know how much we got when we rotated our new signs in... The agency recouped thousands and we are just a podunk field site... w/lots of signs though... :-P

But then again... You said this:

"I say I want a President that doesn't waste peoples' time and money on such foolishness. Dumbest thing I've seen since the idiots in NYS decided we needed to start calling the Triborough Bridge the "RFK Bridge""

Flash... He's speeding the process up by invoking the 1947 law. Maybe they were due for a new sign upgrade anyway?

Maybe you should have worded it better... How in the heck is the Prez. "wasting peoples' time and money on such foolishness" by ordering a proclaimation?

I am sure new signs are already in the budget...

I will just take it that you would rather keep it McKinley until a sign falls down. Then change that one sign? That's just stupid and counterproductive w/the 1947 law.

Don't care much, either should the White House. Bigger fish to fry. This one isn't even a minnow.

This is exactly what the problem is in American society and its politics now.

It really doesn't take too much time and effort to care. Certainly much less than Congress. Betcha the White House is past it. My God, now we are into mental masterbation trying to figure out how many man-hours the WH spent on this.

Probably went like this:

"Here Mr. President... Teleprompter is one, read this."

Teleprompter: "Today we are changing Mt. McKinley to Denali."

Applause.

Done... Move on...

Don't care about the name change.

Annoyed at the pandering. Under normal circumstances, this is announced by some mid-level SEI staffer out of DOI. Instead, it comes from the White House, at the start of the weekly news cycle, on the eve of the President's trip to Alaska to talk about climate change global warming. It's transparently manipulative.

Next question at Exile's press conference

"Mr. President........why did you do this? "

Teleprompter: "we were due for a sign upgrade anyway"

Don't worry Keep the Faith, E.I.I. seems to be going out of his way to be clever today...........................not with logic, but smarminess

I cut off where I stopped reading (the usual spot with your posts).

I'm not 'for' or 'against' any mountain name. And I'm not interested in revisiting whatever was done in 1947 or 1974 or whenever. I'm interested in stupid, pointless decisions being made today. And if there is legislation in Congress about changing a mountain name I think that's pretty f---ing stupid too when this country is $18 trillion dollars in debt.

Why the hell did they have to change the name of Squaw Is;and to Unity Is;and? It's only the Buffalo Dump anyways.

It's ridicu;ous, isn't it? I wonder if, in my ;ifetime, we';; ever see a ;eader who doesn't indu;ge this si;;iness.

Frankly, I find a lot of the really small, stupid crap Barry does is designed to feed the "oh, you guys will complain about everything Obama does" narrative.

Barry will never be big enough to lead the country, but he'll forever be small enough to troll for his base. Simple mind for a simple base.
