LewPort71 Posted August 31, 2015 Posted August 31, 2015 I've been thinking of walking the Appalachian trail next year. Just curious if anyone else has done a similar journey? Yes it was my daughter and son in law who thru-hiked the entire trail in 2013. The planning for this adventure is extensive. And whatever $$ amount you plan to spend. factor in another 30%. I'll contact the kids and ask them which of the many books they recommend.
LabattBlue Posted August 31, 2015 Posted August 31, 2015 (edited) My favorite walk when on vacation is from the airport to a cab which will deliver me to a resort, closely followed by walk from room at said resort to a comfy chair by the pool within earshot of the waitress. LewPort71 Posted September 27, 2015 Posted September 27, 2015 Book recommendation is "Appalachian Trails" by Zach Davis. The Appalachian Trail Conservancy has redesigned their web site. www.appalachiantrail.org. 2016 will be crowded due to the movie "A Walk In the Woods" practice hiking with a 25 pound pack. That is the weight of my son-in-laws pack.
