\GoBillsInDallas/ Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/wonkblog/wp/2015/08/17/every-county-in-america-ranked-by-natural-beauty/ You can scroll over the map to see where your county ranks. However, the map is so small that you need a steady hand for your county info to pop up. Erie County, NY: 1943 out of 3111
Deranged Rhino Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 San Diego County ranked 8th LA county ranked 7th. San Diego is better... not sure how it's ranked lower.
Mike in Horseheads Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 Chemung County 2209 HAHAHHAHAHAH! God we suck.
Pine Barrens Mafia Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 Lehigh County 1700ish. Pretty much spot on. Horrible place to live.
Chef Jim Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 In fact, every single one of the 10 highest-ranked counties is located in California. After Ventura County, Humboldt, Santa Barbara, Mendocino and Del Norte counties round out the top five. And people question why we live here.
Fan in San Diego Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 LA county ranked 7th. San Diego is better... not sure how it's ranked lower. All of the beach communities that are located in LA county probably. Anything east of the coast in LA is a nightmare IMHO
Jon in Pasadena Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 (edited) All of the beach communities that are located in LA county probably. Anything east of the coast in LA is a nightmare IMHO I live in the foothills, and it's great. What's all the nightmarish stuff that I'm apparently missing? Edited August 19, 2015 by Jon in Pasadena
Azalin Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 Travis County (Texas) ranks at 279. Not bad for a place where the grass is brown all summer long.
Chef Jim Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 Travis County (Texas) ranks at 279. Not bad for a place where the grass is brown all summer long. It's become the new status symbol here. It's actually quite sad in some places actually. We take pride in what little yards we have. We actually tricked ours out pretty good with drought resistant plants.
Dante Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 And people question why we live here. They may pretty soon. When it looks like Mexico but is still as expensive as NYC.
BuffaloBud Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 Delaware Co OH (where I reside) - 2426 Duval Co FL (Jacksonville FL) - 410
LeGOATski Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 I've lived on both the east and west coasts. Not sure how they get such different rankings. I do agree that southern California is the best. I love San Diego. I'm not sure how Maricopa County (Phoenix) gets such a high ranking when one of the measures is water area....this area is great for hiking/biking, but you've only got a few reservoirs way outside the city if you want to go enjoy the water. Salt River, I guess...but, that doesn't compare to a nice day at the ocean. Well, whatever.
Gugny Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 So Warren County, NY has Lake George and the Adirondack Mountains and is ranked near 2,000. I declare this list to be stupid.
LeGOATski Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 So Warren County, NY has Lake George and the Adirondack Mountains and is ranked near 2,000. I declare this list to be stupid. Whoever made it clearly has a western bias.
Nervous Guy Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 WOO HOO New London county (CT) 385!!! not bad.
Gugny Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 Whoever made it clearly has a western bias. Not to mention, four distinct season which are all beautiful in their own way; and the fact that we nearly never suffer any kind of natural disasters; the only one that comes to mind is a bad ice storm about 20 years ago. Silly, silly list.
May Day 10 Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 It seems to have completely made 'cold' the worst factor of all time and terrible for everyone... no way that erie, niagara county and much of the Adirondacks are worse to live naturally than almost every square inch of Texas, oklahoma, kansas, etc just because we have winter. We also don't have major droughts, weeks during the summer that outside is dangerous, tornados, hurricanes, bugs and reptiles that can and want to kill you, etc... Niagara county has a natural wonder of the world, wine country, freshwater river, whitewater, and a freshwater great lake. Not that I would expect wny to be terribly high on the list that includes climate... it just seems whatever rationale they used just sweeps west to east and cold too hot. Too neat where it should be more of a checkerboard. The bottom of Florida ranked very high... my god I would not want to live there.
ExiledInIllinois Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 Who says geography and climate doesn't matter? If Hawaii was on the list, it would have "swept all the rest away."
