Kirby Jackson Posted August 16, 2015 Posted August 16, 2015 @TyDunne Rex Ryan won't say if EJ Manuel will get first-team reps here on out. Says he'll work in with two's but won't back himself into a corner. Ryan did say EJ Manuel will get majority of the next game working with three's, so that's why he was with that group. @JoeBuscaglia #Bills HC Rex Ryan: It was my decision to put EJ with the 3s. He may get some reps with the 2s this week too Can some call and check in on BF4E & make sure that he is okay?
26CornerBlitz Posted August 16, 2015 Author Posted August 16, 2015 @WGR550 .@SalSports will be LIVE at 1:00 PM for Bills training camp talk. He'll have Bills LB AJ Tarpley on at 1:10 PM. Tune in.
GG Posted August 16, 2015 Posted August 16, 2015 It would be silly to cut a player of EJs ability outright, unless it's a locker room distraction or salary cap issue. I don't think Bills are at risk in either of these instances. My guess is that he's traded by the end of preseason.

They almost cant keep 3 with all the tough roster cuts they are facing as is.

Tarpley looks the part out there. He's instinctive in space and has the long arms and I don't know how he will be against the run but at least he's wide shouldered for filling the run gaps. Looks like a modern ILB for the passing era. Very interested to see him the rest of preseason.

EJ has shown enough so far that he belongs in the NFL. Perhaps not starting material, but definitely on a roster. If Tarvaris Jackson is still in the league, so can EJ be. There will be a market for him before September
26CornerBlitz Posted August 16, 2015 Author Posted August 16, 2015 @SalSports Percy Harvin will be back at practice tomorrow according to Rex.

I still think that keeping all 3 is the probable scenario. Who knows, all 3 may start at different points this year.

GunnerBill Posted August 16, 2015 Posted August 16, 2015 Bottom line on Tyrod. If not he'll be game planned for and shutdown just like all of the other runaround QBs. @ChrisTrapasso Tyrod is super mobile / improvisational which = exciting. But he needs to prove he can thrive from pocket. Can't scramble over & over in NFL Passing accurately from pocket is what Tyrod has to show this week vs Browns in scrimmage setting then obviously in preseason game No. 2. I'm not sure it is the accuracy so much as the progressions I want to see. I think there is room for improvement in his accuracy, sure, but I think he is moderately ahead of EJ on consistent accuracy at this stage. However, I want to see him go through progressions... it very much looked like first read or run on Friday and I have been back and re-watched and I still think that. You can't win in anything like a long term way in the NFL doing that. If he can get to his 2nd and 3rd guy behind the first team line and still have the threat with his legs if there is nothing there....... then the sky is the limit.
Wayne Cubed Posted August 16, 2015 Posted August 16, 2015 At this point, with how long the Bills have been starved of even mediocre QB play, I'd take a couple seasons of Michael-Vick-type QB play. Vick had about 6 years of very very good QB play and never was a true pocket passer. I wouldn't say Vick was ever figured out just that injuries and age caught up with him. Would that mean Taylor doesn't become the long long term answer? Probably. I'm ok with that considering this team is built to win now.

Who knows, all 3 may start at different points this year. Not out of the realm, but Bills are carrying a lot of specialists, so the spot is at a premium. I'm convinced that Bills tried to move EJ this offseason but found no takers due to his question marks. I think that with a strong August, the interest will be there.

Ideally, for me.... either Tyrod or EJ gets the nod, we keep all three (Cassel for emergency vet QB needs), and both show enough to the coaches that we feel confident going into next year with EJ and Tyrod, and not need to worry about wasting picks on developmental QBs, and we can let Cassel go free after this season.
You herd it hear last Posted August 16, 2015 Posted August 16, 2015 If Cassel becomes the backup... How many other teams in the NFL have a higher paid backup QB? Would this ever be an issue? Other examples from the past?

It would be smart for the Bills to keep all three with the possibility of injury for Cassel or Tyrod. Especially if TT is the starter.
GunnerBill Posted August 16, 2015 Posted August 16, 2015 I think if EJ plays well again against Cleveland there will be a market for him.
26CornerBlitz Posted August 16, 2015 Author Posted August 16, 2015 I think if EJ plays well again against Cleveland there will be a market for him. I don't necessarily agree. He's not going to come in and start for another team this late into camp. If it were the offseason, then yes.
chris heff Posted August 16, 2015 Posted August 16, 2015 Has it crossed anyone's mind that this staff looks at EJ as a rookie? EJ was raw, needed time and coaching, he got neither. If there needed to be more proof of the ineptitude of Marrone and Hacket, watching all three QBs move the team on Friday was it. EJ doesn't cost a lot and what are you going to get for him?
