Good stuff. Thanks for posting!

I continue to think that non-Clay TEs will wind up playing more than either Harvin or Woods, and I'm not very psyched about that. But I'm otherwise tentatively optimistic about Roman as OC.

Not much to add on the the defensive side, because 1.) we're loaded with talent, 2.) Ryan/Thurman have a long history of success, and 3.) most of our talented personnel played really well in a similar D in 2013. So not a lot to concern oneself with until the season starts.

Listening to Roman makes me believe that Cassell will start at QB opening day. Not necessarily because he has been outplaying or out throwing or more accurate than EJ or Tyrod, but because of the offense they will be running, and decision making that will be Cassell's huge advantage over the other two. They want to spread the ball around, they want the QB to read the defense pre-snap and post-snap and go to the option that the defense has forgotten about on that particular formation and play. Cassell is just better suited to that than EJ or Taylor. It's not set in stone obviously, and if either of the other two outshines Cassell in pure throwing by a clear margin that would give them the edge.

But from how Roman described what offense they are going to run, and all the skill players we have and their different strengths, the smart distributor is a better quality right now than strong thrower or better runner.

Cassel is going to need to show better than he has in recent seasons with regard to decision making. People assume because he's a vet that he hasn't been prone to making poor reads and poor throws. That has just not been the case.

Well first of all, he hasn't been on a team with all of these weapons. Most of the time he has had a good skill set he has played pretty well. Not great but good enough for what we need. Secondly, that is not EJ's strength as of now, and we don't know about Tyrod even though he is a smart guy. That was never thought to be one of his strengths people talk about. Just because Cassell wasn't lighting it up on the scoreboard and stat sheet doesn't mean he didn't know where to go with the ball and GENERALLY making good decisions. Usually only coaches know the true answer to that question because of the play call and what all other 10 players did.

The proof will be in the pudding beginning on Friday night. It's all conjecture at this point in the proceedings. We will indeed find out.

I think we will find out only in the regular season. Because they won't gameplan and use their real offense it will only show so much. I don't think either Cassell lighting it up (unlikely) or being rather pedestrian (highly more likely) will have much bearing on how he will look, good or bad, in the regular season.

They are still installing the offense, too.

Good points. It still remains to be seen how well he can function in Roman's offense and whether he can deter defenses from stacking the box to thwart the Bills' run game. I'm skeptical.

Kelly, sounds like you and Roman are golf buddies on his off days!

You're Spartacus! If anyone is golfing with the Romans it is you! I know perhaps you fought against the Roman Republic a couple thousand years ago but i figured by now you could agree to disagree over 18 holes.

How quickly you forgot. No matter what happens Friday the bad will be dismissed with and the good will be tempered with #vanilladefense #notusingtheentireplaybook

You said "hole"!

Yes, I b-slapped the Romans, but they ended up nailing me to the goal post.

I don't understand why they don't game plan. Wouldn't it be a good evaluating factor in how each QB carries out the game plan?
