YoloinOhio Posted August 9, 2015 Posted August 9, 2015 @TODAYshow: Frank Gifford, husband of Kathie Lee Gifford, dies at 84 at Connecticut home http://t.co/hV8Dkdl93jhttp://t.co/rWAbXhcm45 When I first started watching MNF, it was "Frank and Al and Dan"...always liked him as a broadcaster, never saw him play.
Matt in KC Posted August 9, 2015 Posted August 9, 2015 Bummer. I have a lot of fond memories watching games he was calling. I didn't realize he was so old. I guess time keeps on slipping (x3) into the future. . . .

OJ Dingo Posted August 9, 2015 Posted August 9, 2015 The first thing I think of when I hear Frank Gifford is the famous hit he took from Chuck Bednarik back in 1960. Weird they both passed away less than five months apart.

Frank, Howard Cossell and Dandy Don Meridith were the best.
ExWNYer Posted August 9, 2015 Posted August 9, 2015 Frank wasn't the best announcer by any stretch but I loved him on the MNF broadcasts anyway. He was the "calming influence" in the booth. Another childhood memory in the books. RIP, Mr. Gifford.
negativo Posted August 9, 2015 Posted August 9, 2015 I grew up on his calming voice bringing sanity amidst the insanity of MNF during the Cosell era. RIP Frank.
Nanker Posted August 9, 2015 Posted August 9, 2015 RIP Frank. You were a great player and an excellent broadcaster.

JoeF Posted August 9, 2015 Posted August 9, 2015 RIP. Met him once at a Special Olympics World Games Opening Ceremonies. Got to talk with him for about 5 minutes. He just loved life and was loved by the Kennedy/Shriver family. The only person on earth who could make Howard Cossell shut his yapper....
vorpma Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 The first thing I think of when I hear Frank Gifford is the famous hit he took from Chuck Bednarik back in 1960. Weird they both passed away less than five months apart. My thoughts exactly. I remember he started on TV doing the thirty minute NFL today, reviewing the previous weeks highlights prior to the start of the NFL game on WBEN. Back in those days we were football starved and I love watching his show.
Chandler#81 Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 My only recollection of him on the field was as a WR. Retired soon after, then every week doing hi-lites and shaving commercials. He was an original 'golden boy'. RIP, Giffer.
26CornerBlitz Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 @richeisen Al Michaels phoned into @RichEisenShow and told an incredible story of Frank Gifford and Howard Cosell, among others: http://www.richeisenshow.com/2015/08/10/al-michaels-of-nbc-sports-talks-working-with-frank-gifford-81015/
