How about Jeff George or JaMarcus Russell? Seriously though, the options out there are really not better than anything on our roster unfortunately. One of the guys is going to get the job and let's hope our running game and defense are dominant to make up major for deficiencies at the QB position. Jim Kelly and Jack Kemp are not walking thru that door.

Cassell will start.....don't know about the rest of the wannabe's. Cassell won the starting job last year in Minn.....and lost it when he broke his ankle in the 3d(?) game. He was good enough to start there...and he will be here since there isn't somebody to take it away. He will be a B- or C+ QB, not an A player, but that may be good enough for a winning record with this team. Not sure anybody else can be anything but a C- or D grade player. I don't hate EJ, but as a season ticket holder, I saw for myself he does not have the accuracy to be an NFL QB. DM HAD to bench EJ last year as the receivers were in open rebellion about EJ's lack of ability to hit them when they were open.

I suppose another QB might be found in free agency, Orton did not work out so bad IMHO...and he brought a little swagger to the job....that is necessary in that the team on the field needs a lift from their leader. Not to be found in EJ....either, unfortunately.

As for the candidates mentioned here...Locker has lost his desire....much like Orton I think....so he is NFG. Vick is over the hill. Mettenburger is so good they drafted MM. Glennon interests me some, we could do worse I suppose....like with the guys on our roster at this point.

yep

Mettenberger is under contract through 2017 and making basically nothing on his rookie deal. Mariota hasn't even taken a preseason game snap and their third string WB is Charlie Whitehurst. Why is Tennessee trading him for anything other than a ridiculous offer?

A 3rd is ridiculous in my opinion and they will jump at that deal. We need to be ready for Cassel eventual injury it's coming hopefully Whaley swallows his pride and pulls the plug on EJ. He needs to realize his job is at stake. If not MBerger then go after Cousins we can get him no prb for a 4th. Wash has McCoy so they'll make that deal.

Mark my words Cassel will be hurt by week 4..

If the people in charge were actually interested in making those moves, they would've done it by now.

The plan seems to be to start the winner of the 3-way battle.

I don't believe the people in charge are shocked by EJ struggling such that they're going to abandon their plan.

I don't think their plan was anything more than giving EJ the decency of training camp. IMO he was never going to be the QB Rex was going to hitch his wagon to. It was Meh all the way.

YES, though the EJ contingent at this forum won't believe the Truth until the guy is banished from the team, and then the league shortly thereafter.

If EJ is as bad as early camp reports indicate, then it's about to be a two-man race between Tyrod and Meh with Simms lingering in the background as a dark, dark horse. Objective fans saw this coming a long time ago, so it should come as no surprise. One would think Cassell has the edge, albeit a slight one, as we head towards preseason. If Tyrod lights it up, though, he could steal it.

I think Cassell wins the camp battle, and is adequate to get this team to the Playoffs. Then a FA QB will see Buffalo as a place to go and win a ring. Who knows, Cassell could get us to the SB. Rex got to the AFC Championship game w/ a less talented roster (and OC) than this. No need to panic (yet). And in Roman's scheme, TT could turn out to be a great player.

[This team is not like my Pirates, who refuse to spend on backup players and act shocked when AJ gets injured, then brings in JA Happ(less). (sorry, still really pissed off about that)].

Whaley should definitely give Sam Cassell a call. He just might be the answer.

Wow. Not remotely close on either, especially Mett. He's cheap, under contract for 3 more seasons and is backing up a rookie so why is Tenn going to trade him? And for so little? Cousins could get dealt since he's on the last year of his deal, but he's the backup for the oft injured RG3, so why is Wash trading him at all (much less during training camp for the joke of a 4th)? Get real.

I am sure the Front office has considered every option available to find a decent QB and I assume they will continue to do so. Unfortunately, the QB tree is pretty bare right now. We are probably going to have to make the best of the three we have for this year. Based on early results, it seems like Cassel is the odds on favorite to be the guy, but there is a lot of time left in camp for someone to step up. Lets hope one of the three starts to really take the job and do well because I don't think there is another candidate waiting in the wings.
