Arkady Renko
I just got into a little bit of an accident this morning, spinning off of a road and took some damage the car including the air bags deploying. It looks like the air bags and a cracked windshield are all that I got, but since I never have had the air bags deployed and haven't had an estimate yet, I was wondering if people had an idea on how much fixing the airbags usually cost and any advice on things to be cautioned about when getting them fixed as well. TheMadCap
Not 100% on this, but I am told they are several thousand dollars to replace...

I hope you're wrong. Someone had guessed 1000 before, but if it's 4000 or something than the car is totaled.
bartshan-83
I have read that they can be about a grand a piece but it does depend on the quality of the car. I've heard that the cost can go up to around 5,000 for some expensive, luxury cars.

stuckincincy
I've heard reports that unscrupulous collision shops don't replace them. Anecdotally, I've heard that for some models, they have become a theft target.

stuckincincy
Is there a way to be sure that they have? 235757[/snapback] I would imagine so, but I haven't looked into it. Just that they are physically there under the steering wheel pad or passenger-side dash panel doesn't guarantee that they are functional. Air bag replacement is really a job that you have a dealership perform...

Just Jack
If you have collision on your insurance, you would only have to pay the deductable. I don't remember how much it was to replace both airbags when I hit the deer about 4 years ago.
VABills
$1000 each on average. The most expensive cars are only about 2400-3000 max. http://www.scienceservingsociety.com/p/155...ent%20cost'

I have a high deductible of about 800 or so dollars and my sister crashed this car a couple of years ago so there already is a high insurance rate on top of the high rate for my age. eSJayDee
I seem to recall reading somewhere that airbags 'chopped' from stolen cars usually fetch a few hundred apiece. (That's obviously for the airbags alone.)

If they can find them at a junk yard for 1/3 the cost then they may not.
stevestojan
To think, you can buy a pair of fun bags for just a little bit more than a pair of airbags... What a country!
Arkady Renko
I guess airbags are good on the whole but in this particular instance I probably didn't need their deployment meaning that all I got from them so far looks like a big headache and a ruined car... Beerball
Depends on the state. Here in Texas the ex-wife is entitled to 50%. Air bags suck.
