TakeYouToTasker
BERNIE SANDERS ON IMMIGRATION: “Open borders? No, that’s a Koch brothers proposal. . . . It would make everybody in America poorer —you’re doing away with the concept of a nation state, and I don’t think there’s any country in the world that believes in that.” Plus: If you believe in a nation state or in a country called the United States or UK or Denmark or any other country, you have an obligation in my view to do everything we can to help poor people. What right-wing people in this country would love is an open-border policy. Bring in all kinds of people, work for $2 or $3 an hour, that would be great for them. I don’t believe in that. I think we have to raise wages in this country, I think we have to do everything we can to create millions of jobs. You know what youth unemployment is in the United States of America today? If you’re a white high school graduate, it’s 33 percent, Hispanic 36 percent, African American 51 percent. You think we should open the borders and bring in a lot of low-wage workers, or do you think maybe we should try to get jobs for those kids? I think from a moral responsibility we’ve got to work with the rest of the industrialized world to address the problems of international poverty, but you don’t do that by making people in this country even poorer. So it’s okay to have socialism, but it can’t be international socialism, it has to be socialism in one nation. A sort of national socialism, I guess. Stop with that meme... It's an absurd reference to make.

IDBillzFan
I thought right wing people hated immigrants and wanted walls? Now they want open borders? Frankly, I'm just hoping Bernie doesn't get completely unhinged until AFTER Hillary gets completely unhinged. C'mon, Bernie...fight those voices you hear. You can do it for just a little while longer.

reddogblitz
In Bernies's career he has voted on many things. 4 of the most important ones, history has shown him to be right IMHO. 1. Voted against NAFTA. 2. Voted against CAFTA. 3. Voted against the Patriot Act. 4. Voted against Iraq War. Yes, he's the nut? reddogblitz
Yes, he is. Why? Tell me why. I told you why I don't think he is. Get over the "Socialism" thing. He can't get rid of the banks or make college free. He might want to, but he can't. But the decisions he does have control to make, he makes decent choices. Was the Patriot Act a good idea? How's the war in Iraq going? Outsourcing jobs to countries that pay workers pennies an hour working out good for us too?

Remember the beginning of the iraq war? anyone disagreeing was labelled unpatriotic and it stuck. it took bravery and independence to take a contrarian stand. to a lesser degree the same is true for the other votes you mentioned. that's strenght, not weakness. Executive power has been expanded exponentially by the last two administrations. Sanders absolutely can dissolve the banks by executive order citing direct executive power through the Treasury. If his actions ever make their way to the SCOTUS, which they may not because recent lower court decisions ruled that virtually no one has the standing to challenge the President on Constitutional matters, it wouldn't be until years later, when the damage has already been done. No, no one should "get past" the "Socialist thing". That "thing" is the single most important thing.
Azalin
Get over the "Socialism" thing. Never. That, more than anything, disqualifies him from holding the presidency in my book. IDBillzFan
Get over the "Socialism" thing. It seems like only yesterday when calling someone a socialist made us a racist. Now we're just to supposed to ignore the fact that you want us to elect a self-described socialist as POTUS? Yeah. Okay. We'll do that.
reddogblitz
Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play? I know socialism is a dirty word around here. And I'm not a socialism supporter per se. However if you listen to what the man says and his reasoning with an open mind, it doesn't sound that bad. Besides, this is my 11th presidential election I'll be voting in. ALL candidates make claims for what they will do as if they are running for KIng instead of President. Most of it they couldn't do even if they wanted to. (500.000.000 solar panels OR read my lips, no new taxes for example). I prefer to look at their record. What in Bernie's record indicates he has done "socialist" things that have hurt the country? I've pointed out some things in his record that I think are good. What IN HIS RECORD has be done that has been harmful to the country.

Sanders has served as one of 435 in the House and one of 100 members in the Senate. He hasn't had the opportunity to enact broad Socialist "reforms" in those roles, though he has certainly advocated for them. As the President, with the powers of the modern Executive at his disposal, he'll do exactly as he says he'll do.
