Bill from NYC Posted June 25, 2005 Posted June 25, 2005 I think Unions for Police and Fire are inherently necessary, as they deal with the BS spewed at them from our society's biggest crooks. They NYFD didn't get a raise for 3 years after 911, as I understand. 367508[/snapback] I think it was 2 years, but I'm not sure. The NYCPBA is currently in arbitration, where they only allow 2 year contracts. The day it is settled (it should happen in July), the contract will already be expired. Btw, I am not in love with every union. There should be no Detective's Endowment Assoc. in NYC. Detective's contracts are stretched out for a longet period than those of police officers, and actually expire almost a year later. They have far worse dental benefits because there are older members who need more work, and less of them. Ditto for the prescription plan. Imo, we were forced to leave the PBA and join the DEA in order to give "titles" such as Union President, etc. to another set of people, and divide the workforce. Detectives are not supervisors, and should belong to the larger organization (the PBA), in a "Detective Division." This was done when the PBA absorbed the Housing and Transit Police. Why isn't there a movement to fix this? Because it would be pretty rough to go against these guys and then get in trouble. At least that's how I view it.
