Deranged Rhino
This story is kind of an amalgamation of a bunch of different topics being discussed throughout PPP. Is it right for the Sun to publish the picture of a child being instructed by her uncle / future King on how to do the Nazi salute? Is it right for the royal family to whitewash their involvement / support of the Nazis early on in Hitler's rise? Or is it all just a bunch of noise? The Sun’s decision to publish footage of the Queen at six or seven years old performing a Nazi salute, held in the royal archives and hitherto unavailable for public viewing, has triggered concerns that the palace has for years sought to suppress the release of damaging material confirming the links between leading royals and the Third Reich. http://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2015/jul/18/royal-family-archives-queen-nazi-salute?CMP=ema_565

....lybob
At the beginning there were quite a few proponents of Hitler and the National Socialist German Workers' Party- most liked a strong authoritarian leader and thought that Germany would be a bulwark against Russian communism - you got to remember the Russians had killed their Royalty a short time before so anything that stood against communism was favored among the royals of Europe - also there was a number of American and British Industrialist doing business with Germany, in some cases those business dealing continued for a time even when the countries were at war. Saxe-Coburg-Gotha or something close was the original name before they used the more English sounding Windsor - and they were related to the Russian royalty (cousins I think)

Henry Ford was chief among them. Charles Lindbergh and Will Rogers were sympathizers. When Edward VIII abdicated his crown to marry Wallis Simpson he traveled around the continent - he was notorious for his sympathy of Hitler's regime. Had the Germans won, he might have been put back on the throne by Adolph.

IIRC they were also all grandchildren of Queen Victoria Nicholas and George even looked like they could have been brothers In the lead up to WWI they sent personal telegrams to each other
DC Tom
Saxe-Coburg-Gotha or something close was the original name before they used the more English sounding Windsor - and they were related to the Russian royalty (cousins I think) Most of the European royalty was inter-related. Kaiser Wilhelm II was Queen Victoria's grandson; Tsar Nicholas the II was a second or third distaff cousin through the Danish royal family. I believe Franz-Josef falls in there somewhere, too. World War 1 was basically a giant, royal family feud. This story is kind of an amalgamation of a bunch of different topics being discussed throughout PPP. Deranged Rhino
The Queen launches massive search for who leaked the footage: Royal sources revealed the Queen was livid when courtiers broke the news and she is said to feel betrayed by whoever leaked the footage. But the Queen is most hurt that the scenes also showed her beloved Queen Mum joining in the spoof saluting in the grounds of Balmoral Castle, Scotland, in 1933-34. One insider said: “The Queen was devoted to her mother and knows that she, more than anyone, despised Hitler and inspired the country to stand firm against the Nazis. http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/uk-world-news/queen-launches-massive-hunt-find-6095889
....lybob
Not a big deal if the British royal family gave a NAZI salute - The British have enough of their own atrocities to repent from - Germany, Russia, and China are usually named when it comes to mass killings but Britain, France, Belgium, and the U.S deserve mention too.
