Deranged Rhino Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 Let's say when everyone wakes up tomorrow, there's an announcement which scientifically proves reincarnation is real, that we don't ever truly "die" but instead are recycled back into new bodies after each life. How, if at all, would you expect this knowledge to change people's lives? How, if at all, would you expect our social institutions and governments to change? Thoughts?
B-Man Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 Is the science the "settled" kind ? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V4X6jOpYEfY George Carlin - Inflation (of souls)
Deranged Rhino Posted July 15, 2015 Author Posted July 15, 2015 Is the science the "settled" kind ? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V4X6jOpYEfY George Carlin - Inflation (of souls) For the sake of this discussion, let's assume it's settled science, not wishy-washy or even debated -- that's how concrete the evidence is. Of course, this would carry with it unavoidable spiritual ramifications -- but let's assume there's nothing else definitively known about the process other than our souls are recycled back into human bodies after each lifespan. There's no memory of our past lives, there's no scientific consensus on karma or anything spiritual about the process -- just the knowledge that reincarnation is real and occurring.

I would leave myself clues like in memento
Deranged Rhino Posted July 15, 2015 Author Posted July 15, 2015 I would leave myself clues like in memento That's actually a brilliantly funny idea.
B-Man Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 Well T-G, I think that it would slowly but surely makes things worse. If you were assured of coming back to earth, as a human (following your guidelines) then what restrictions would you put on your life now? Those with weaker morals would simply do whatever they want. Chaos. .
keepthefaith Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 Do we come back only as humans or could we be dogs, birds or sharks too?
meazza Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 Do we come back only as humans or could we be dogs, birds or sharks too? Or BirdDogs.
Azalin Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 I imagine that if people knew they were going to be reincarnated, that religions dealing with an afterlife would just go away. No sitting at the right hand of so-and-so, no virgins, no nothing. I don't know if that kind of knowledge would have a positive effect on people or a negative one. I'm able to imagine all kinds of possibilities, but nothing stands out as being a likely way that people would react to the news.
TakeYouToTasker Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 I'd immediately begin advocating for the death of: addicts, criminals, the handicapped (mentally or physically), any adults not self sufficient, any one living in poor farming conditions or famine, etc.

B-Man Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 And you'll come back as a **** stain. Why the increase in station ? .
LeviF Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 If everyone is guaranteed a human body, I think we'd see a lot more hedonism and, on the other end, more suicide.
Trump_is_Mentally_fit Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 And you'll come back as a **** stain. Ok, and who did you use to be, in another life? Any guesses? If everyone is guaranteed a human body, I think we'd see a lot more hedonism and, on the other end, more suicide. But, isn't there a numbers problem with that? The increasing population means there are humans being created than existed in the past

Deranged Rhino Posted July 15, 2015 Author Posted July 15, 2015 But, isn't there a numbers problem with that? The increasing population means there are humans being created than existed in the past Only if you think there is either a limit to the amount of life in the universe or the creator's power. But in this question, anything is game.
KD in CA Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 I'd expect about a billion suicides day 1. And I'd definitely start exercising more.
