Iran Nuclear Deal Reached

Recommended Posts

What a bunch of horse crap. Opening up Iran to the world is a defeat for the hardliners there who want to close off their society and not let "dangerous foreign ideas" in. Nothing is guaranteed, but business interests and cultural exchanges intertwine usually and will hopefully bring Iran along in a peaceful manner. The Iranian people are not our enemies and they benefit greatly from this deal. People said it was appeasement to open up China. Was that a bad idea?

Because everyone knows that there are moderates within the Iranian theocracy that we can easily appeal to. Besides, it's not like they've ever threatened to wipe Israel from the map, or chant "death to America" whenever cameras show up.

Levinson Family: We Feel ´Betrayed´ by White House
ABC News, by Brian Ross

Original Article

The family of former FBI agent Robert Levinson, who disappeared while on assignment for the U.S. government in Iran in 2007, said they feel “devastated” and “betrayed” by the Obama White House – not just because Levinson was not included in the Iranian prisoner swap that freed several other Americans, but because no one from the White House called to warn them about the exchange. They learned about it by watching television. “I thought after nine years that they would have enough respect for our family to at least tell us in advance that this is happening,” Levinson’s wife, Christine, told ABC.

What on earth would make you think this white house would have any respect for you?

Media calling angry, distraught family? Sad but pretty irrelevant.

LOL at the childish attempts of distraction....................
Krauthammer's Take: Iran Deal 'Guaranteed To Be Cheated On'
President Obama misled America Sunday when he said Iran doesn’t have enough enriched uranium to create a single nuclear bomb, Charles Krauthammer said tonight. After the Iran deal took effect this weekend, Obama said, “Today more than 98 percent of that stockpile has been shipped out of Iran, meaning Iran now doesn’t have enough material for even one bomb.”
“It sounds pretty good, but it is misleading,” Krauthammer said on Monday’s Special Report. “Number one, we allowed the Iranians to self-inspect. We have no idea if that was 98 percent because we don’t have a baseline. The IAEA was supposed to establish a baseline; it wasn’t allowed to.”
“Second of all, it’s being given the right to enrich,” he continued. ”The entire negotiation is a premised on the idea we’re going to lift sanctions if it stops enriching uranium. It retained a right, meaning it’s going to do it in the present and in the future.”
Krauthammer also warned the Obama Administration’s forgiving attitude toward Iran guarantees cheating: “We have no way of exerting any pressure on it if it cheats. And this administration has shown with the seizing of the sailors that it will do nothing to jeopardize this deal in the future, in calling out Iran if it cheats. It’s guaranteed to be cheated on.”

That is an excellent point that I confess had not occurred to me.

This is the kind of nonsense #IranDeal advocates now forced to defend

John Kerry: Saudis 'can't just buy a bomb' http://buff.ly/1S1Ge2q

Kidnapped Americans apparently taken to Sadr City. This could not happen without Iranian acquiescence. http://www.usnews.com/news/world/articles/2016-01-18/iraqi-official-americans-kidnapped-from-interpreters-home

BAGHDAD (AP) — The abduction of three Americans from a Baghdad apartment over the weekend is the latest in a series of brazen high-profile kidnappings undermining confidence in the Iraqi government's ability to control state-sanctioned Shiite militias that have grown in strength as Iraqi security forces battle the Islamic State group.

This game is getting old. Iran kidnaps Americans, holds them hostage, gets ransom - then Obama administration hails diplomacy

Surreal.

White House knew Iran-backed Shia militias were intent on kidnapping Americans. Did nothing. Via @cbsnews

Info that a 'militant group' might act, but WH held off.........sounds like a movie..........

If that's actually true, then it's unforgivable.

"Info that a militant group might act" is right along the lines of "info that al Qaeda might fly planes into buildings" and "info that Japan might attack the Philippines."

Intelligence concerning intent is rarely actionable.

Too true sir, but "hoping militants will hold off", as a solid basis for dealing with antagonists in the Middle East, does not even deserve the term intelligence in the sentence.

CBS News reported late last night. The intel surprised the Obama administration, according to CBS’ sources, because they figured the deal they had negotiated for the prisoner swap that took place this weekend had convinced Tehran to call off their proxies on further hostage-taking.

The single greatest conceptual failure of this administration is their persisting in the belief, despite all evidence to the contrary, that people can be controlled by a higher authority.

I get what you're saying, but in light of a pending deal to negotiate the release of prisoners/hostages/etc, it seems way beyond prudent to me to act on any such intelligence and pull our folks out of harm's way, at least for a little while.
