My boss recently acquired a couple 4 packs of Heady Topper in Vermont. Can't wait to find out if it is as good as the hype. Pairing it with some huge dry aged porterhouse steaks. Has anyone had Heady Topper? How does it stack up? Apparently it is widely accepted as one of the greatest beers in the country.

Hammer is a big fan. I live in NH but the closest HT outlet is over two hours from me. So I've yet to try it.

I get it pretty frequently here in VT. It's weird though...you almost have to have a "hook up" to get it. It is a really, really good beer. Plenty of hoppy deliciousness with citrus (I think grapefruit) flavors. Enjoy.

FWIW: my favorite Vermont beer is Fiddlehead IPA. Another small batch craft brewery but more readily available than HT.

Ok, serious question for you beer snobs. Who is the emperor who decreed that the more hops in a beer then the better it is. I'm kind of tired of the IPA worship.

Most of the RateBeer top 50 are Stouts: http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/top-50/

I'm not a Stout guy cause I don't like the taste of Coffee, and many remind me of it. I've had my phases as a huge hop head but lately I've been drinking lighter beers and sour ales. I'm a little lucky here in Austin because this beer is basically available everywhere: http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/live-oak-hefe-weizen/902/

I've been enjoying a nice hefe lately, Franziskaner. Great summer beer. Edited by Johnny Hammersticks

Good to hear. Must be my town. Everyone insists on bringing IPA. Give me a stout or lager any day.

Nice, I like Franziskaner. That's the beer I think of when I think classic hefe.

Great beer. Too bad the distributor in NH dropped it. As I type this I'm enjoying a White Birch Berliner Weisse with a splash of raspberry. One of my summer favorites. The White Birch brewery is literally at the end of my street so I can go straight to the source.

So? How was it OP? Everything you thought it would be? Not as good as you thought it might be?

IMHO, it really is an exceptional beer and lives up to the hype.

A good friend gave me 2 cans awhile back. I did Enjo one with my son

I don't think I'd like this beer. not big in to the hops or ipa's. i like lagers, as others said. lighter beers, some ales. too many hops overpower the uniqueness of a beer.

i prefer liquor, of course in most cases, mixed with some good flavor. homemade wines, oh yes.

Last summer I went to a Scotch tasting hosted by a Master Blender, we went through about a dozen or so different labels, and he solicited everyone's opinions about each. He wraped up his more formal part of the tasting by answering a question posed by someone in the group who fancies himself a bit of a Scotch snob. The question was: "So which of these is the best?"

The Master Blender replied: "Well, I can't really say. The most expensive Scotch was one of those which, if I remember correctly, you enjoyed the least. By all means, feel free to spend more money than you otherwise should on something you don't like, but for me, the best Scotch is the one I enjoy drinking the most."

When it comes to beer, I myself am an IPA guy, GG, though I hardly think my own pallet determines what's best for others. I'll defer to the Master Blender, and simply agree that it's all a matter of tastes.

Maybe just me, but I would have the beer either before or after the steak, not with. I paid beer with food prolly more than most, but a dry aged cut like that calls out for wine, not beer.

And Levi, Brooklyn Summer is just an awesome awesome beer! Only enhanced by the fact it comes in cans....I always by cans when available. Just be warned, total wine here in richmond already out of the canned Brooklyn. If your local stores has some 12 packs left, I would gobble them up.

Beer is worse the Christmas now....cause doesn't everyone want a nice Pumpin Ale sitting on the beach in August!
