T master Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 Like all other American companies the NFL is looking to outsource its product , once again putting Americans out out of work not to mention leaving season ticket holders paying for a home game they don't get to go see at their home stadium . Plus two teams home stadium employees each year get less pay for that year , how does that help the US ? Not to mention the amount of tourism it could quite possibly bring here , I just don't get it !! Figure this out from the below article . 10 yrs x 2 games per yr is 20 home games on US soil that are lost , what kind of revenue are the US based stadiums losing over that period of time ?? Then take away the tourism part which may not be huge but it is still part of the equation . Plus how ever many season ticket holders getting hosed !! http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000500560/article/nfl-tottenham-hotspur-ink-10year-stadium-partnership If playing NFL games in different countries is so important , why didn't they just keep NFL Europe ? Then all those countries could build their own stadiums & have their own teams along with their own players . I know it is all greed driven but when do the original American fans get fed up with it & why do the original fans have to sacrifice in order for the NFL to do this ? They still keep the season ticket holders $ & get paid more for the over seas game ? Something isn't right there !! I know this year with the Bills going to London for a game i really don't care because it's not a game taken away from the fans that go to the Ralph , but we all know what it was like to take a game a year away from the fans & have them go to Toronto. THAT SUCKED !! Leaving season ticket holders holding the bag . If the NFL is going to do this then why don't they reimburse the season ticket holders for that game that they are basically taking away from the home fan base . In the general thought pattern of today more of a good thing is better supposedly which is apparently the reason why the NFL is looking to add more games & more countries to the NFL mix . Apparently R. Goodell & the rest of the fat cats of the NFL need to make MO MONEY ! But when is to much TO MUCH ? The reason why the NFL is so huge is because they leave you wanting more which keeps the appetite for the game going . I hope they don't go the way that Baseball did ! I watched a piece on ESPN the other day of baseball back in the 70's or 80's the stadiums were filled every seat , you watch a game now & half may be filled on a good day i hope the talking heads learn from other sports & don't over saturate the market to where the NFL is just another game !!! Lets keep American football in America where it belongs !!
CodeMonkey Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 The NFL does not care about America, just the bottom line like all businesses. If they do not expand their revenue base, it will collapse under the weight of the outrageous player salaries and owner profits. They have about sucked every dollar they can from Americans, they need to expand or die.
GunnerBill Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 My only problem is that I might have to go to that shitehole filled by those scumbags to watch NFL football. I won't worry about it though...... Spurs have been talking about a new home ground for a decade or more and it hasn't happened yet..... 2018 eh? I'll believe it when I see it. The reason why we Brits are getting proper NFL games and not NFL Europe is that to sell the product they need high quality games... NFL Europe didn't give that. I do understand why people like you hate it though. I hate the idea of Premier League soccer doing the same thing... but money talks.
Luxy312 Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 The NFL is losing no revenue as a result of having a game overseas. Advertisers pay big chunks of cash to have their stuff on television, which is happening whether the game is played at the Ralph or at Wembley. I would be curious to know who exactly is "losing their job" as well because a game is moved across the pond. Concession workers on game day get around $9 per hour plus tips and generally work 10-11 hours on game day. So doing some simple math, anyone that's counting on that livelihood is only earning about $800 plus tips for the entire season. As for stadium revenue, the Bills owners get more to move the game than they would to host it at home. Also not a factor. The NFL is ripe for expansion abroad right now and personally, I think London is the right start.
GunnerBill Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 (edited) The NFL is ripe for expansion abroad right now and personally, I think London is the right start. The fanbase over here is very genuine and growing exponentially year on year. And that is without the Germans, Dutch and Scandanavians who flock to London for the games in a way they would never flock to the States because they can get return flights to London for less than £100. EDIT: But like I say I do have some sympathy with T master and people who share his opinion. I may well feel the same on the other side of the fence. Edited July 8, 2015 by GunnerBill

Football is entertainment and I'm all for sharing the sport I like the most with anyone that wants it. Every year we move closer to being more "global" and less just 'Merica' (picture best Texas accent when you read that).
GunnerBill Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 Think it'll ever rival soccer, then? No way. No sport over here even gets close to soccer. It isn't like the US where you have 3 or 4 major sports.... here it is soccer and then everything else. Newspapers have 6 or 7 pages of soccer and then 1 or 2 pages of everything else. Even during the off season soccer dominates the back pages with 3 and 4 pages given over to transfer rumours that are little more than idle gossip with no truth. The target of the NFL is to get onto the next rung down with cricket, rugby and tennis. I think that is achievable long term because actually leaving aside the national teams the level of interest in the club game in rugby and cricket has been on the wane for a number of years.
Lurker Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 Lets keep American football in America where it belongs !! And keep that damn english football on the other side of the pond where it belongs. No one in the red-blooded, beer swilling U.S. of A cares about that mamby-pamby foreign game...

Kelly the Dog Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 I'm not sure the NFL knows how to conduct investigations and dole out punishments but they are pretty damn good at marketing their brand, growing their sport and maximizing their profits.
Fadingpain Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 I'm not sure the NFL knows how to conduct investigations and dole out punishments but they are pretty damn good at marketing their brand, growing their sport and maximizing their profits. And yet they haven't tapped into the revenue stream available to them via whoring out space on the players' uniforms for advertising/sponsorship. I always wondered why that was the case. Surely it can't be long before the Bills are "sponsored" by SONY or APPLE or GM or FORD or TOYOTA. Then again, I've been waiting for this for at least 20 years and it hasn't come yet.
Rocky Landing Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 This isn't really outsourcing. It's exporting. Regarding the season ticket sales: Correct me if I'm wrong, but are the London games not scheduled before season tickets go on sale? Regarding income loss: I wonder what the disparity between what vendors, parking attendants, etc lose, and the income, and wages gained by companies, and employees involved in moving an NFL team to Europe is? Certainly, in terms of the local Orchard Park economy, there would be a net loss. But, between shipping, travel, coordination, logistics, and Mario Williams' dog sitter, it can't be cheap to host a game in London.

Why make 10 trillion dollars selling your product to North Americans, when you can make 20 trillion dollars selling your product to North Americans and Europeans too. It's called greed. It's the American pastime and our history is rich with it! No one does it better, though the rest of the world is catching up.
Peter Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 Nobody has mentioned the real travesty in all of this: The NFL is lowering itself by partnering with Tottenham of all teams. The NFL should be smart enough to know that London and North London are red - as in Arsenal red. COYG
Beef Jerky Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 It's a big world out there... So you tell me you are a business that knows they have many fans outside the country and wouldn't expand the viewing? Also NFL Europe... You know people don't like second hand crap. They want the real deal and so do you.
Lurker Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 I wonder if any UK rock fans are put out that Mick and the boys are playing in Buffalo Saturday night? I can just hear it now...."Why can't they just play every gig in London? Why let the Yanks get to enjoy them, we should have them all to ourselves?"

zonabb Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 (edited) I have a lot of issues here with the NFL but my biggest one surrounds gambling. I was at White Hart Lane this year for a game when I went to London. You can walk in and place a bet on the game in the concourse. In this country, the NFL fights gambling with an iron fist, only allowing it when they have the systems in place and can profit. So they jump on board with fantasy football so they get their cut but they fight vigorously against gambling on games at the state level in casinos. You can't walk two blocks in London without passing a bookie. You can bet anything there, including the NFL. Maybe, just maybe, the interest in the NFL is connected in the massive gambling culture in the UK??? And maybe, the NFL needs to stand up and explain why it's fighting, NJ for example, against allowing people to bet on games while being a bunch of greedy hypocrites and taking their game to a country awash in legal bookies???? Oh, and how many home games are Jerry Jones and Robert Kraft and Dan Snyder going to give up or do they just plan to reap the benefits of these games while the NFL's less-than-marquee clubs get sent over seas?
