Saxum
I wonder if Whaley would've kept Fitz? Again, it doesn't really matter who the GM is...there are just not a lot of great QBs to go around. They wanted to keep Fitz as a backup but that whole phone trick ruined any chance of repairing relationship. The pranksters got off easily and Bills should have sued them in civil court for damages. machine gun kelly
Great read, good information, and a hell of a story. I truly do hope Miller becomes a Perennial Pro-Bowl Guard for the BILLS, for them and for him. Also, if true (which obviously remains to be seen - a looooong way from showing anything of substance or value), Whaley continues to hit homeruns on the Draft. Before we digress into the QB issue (AGAIN!), keep in mind Nix was the GM at the time EJ was Drafted and while Whaley was the man in the wings, Nix was at the helm. You can't have it both ways: you either give the GM the credit / blame for picks, or you don't. Big Buff i would also say Nix was the best GM we had in a decade prior to that. He hit on number of picks and had absolutely nothing to work with prior to his arrival. Everyone has short memories in how badly this team was managed prior to his arrival. It's taken 5 long years of good mgmt with some misses like every other team to build our way out of a mess. We were by far the worst managed, least talented team prior to 2010. Now it's our time. I agree that Nix was far better at that time than the BILLS had in 10 years leading up to his appointment as GM....but, some people have already written off EJ and then pointed the finger at Whaley - and NOT to turn this into ANOTHER QB debate - I just wanted to point out that to me Whaley has done a HELL of a job, especially in the Draft the last few years (with this year's Draft results still pending and even Kujo's progress remaining to be seen) and that if Miller were to wind up starting in the G position and do a really good job there for years to come, it only highlights just how good and smart Whaley is as well as hiring good to great scouts. People who have already decided on EJ's future point to Whaley for the "blame" but Nix was the GM, the final decision was his...I assume Whaley had in-put, just as Monos and Fisher have in the last three Drafts, but who takes the blame / credit? Whaley does....so, if we're going to be consistent, Nix gets the blame / credit for EJ also. Now, personally - I believe THIS is a year where with a proper and NFL caliber coaching staff and Offensive mind in Greg Roman, EJ will demonstrate what is true value is in the NFL: starting QB, Franchise QB, or a career back-up. Just IMO....
