Miller's out 4-6. Neuvirth didn't really play that well and we were without Ennis and Girgs. I'll say it again, if you've been watching these games (and I'll completely forgive you if you haven't) there has been a noticeable jump in determination since the trade. It's almost as if the players are in F.U. mode and are finally sick of the tank talk -- determined not to finish last.

Blocked shots: Vancouver 3, Buffalo 17. Nolan has this team fired up.

Blocked shots is a misleading stat. The Sabres have had a ton of them this season... because they let up about 500 shot attempts per game and "only" surrender about 30-45. That is why this Corsi Number thing has been getting so much airplay in the past few years.

Hits would be more of an indicator, but hits is kind of an subjective statistic that is in the eye of the beholder and is counted differently in each building.

The Sabres have only outshot their opponent one time in the past 29 games. Shots are also not a be-all-end-all. But that kind of trend is staggering. Most/all analytics point against the Sabres. They are off the charts. They have had some fortune the past few weeks. It may continue, but all indicators point to this "streak" not being sustainable.

I know stats can be deceptive, I only used the blocked shots stat to reinforce my point -- which is that this team has been playing with determination since the trade. Throw all the stats out the window and watch the actual games. This isn't the listless team we saw in January.

I think the jump in effort and determination wasn't so much to do with the trade, but rather had everything to do with the reporting of the rumor that GMTM is keen on dumping Nolan at the end of the year in favor of Luke Richardson.

One scribe called it, "The worst kept secret in the NHL."

I bet that Nolan used that, coupled with the shake-up of the trade, and sold the team on the concept that, "They're sacrificing all of us for one of the two golden boys, so let's rain on their parade, shall we boys?"

Yeah there could be something to that.

He's going to keep playing him, so Murray has to trade him. I don't know why he hasn't. It doesn't matter what you get back.

Wow...that's scary. Hope it was just a freak thing and he is okay.

i absolutely do not get this at all...fire nolan already

When are they getting Hackett his 7 starts? Nolan quickly going from beloved to vilified ...because he is winning.

I am going to play tonight I have wanted to see for a while... not sure if I want to watch this game. Hate to be in a pissed off mood if the Sabres win. Think I will save to get home tonight....

If Sabres win, I'm not going to even be able to look at the ARI and EDM scores later!
