26CornerBlitz Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Just made my annual call...this was the toughest one yet and I've been with them since 1998. In the end though, I'm happy. Started off going straight to customer retention (didn't realize I had gotten there initially). The woman I talked with was very nice but could only offer me a $3 credit for 12 months off of a "regional sports fee" plus an additional $5 credit for 6 months off of my Sports Pak. I then asked her if she could connect me to customer retention and she said that they were the retention dept. I asked if someone there could help me with the price of Sunday Ticket and she said that her supervisor could. She put me on hold for a minute then came back (I never talked with the supe) and said that they could only offer me $9 off of each of my four ST payments. I said that I appreciated it but that wouldn't help my bill much and maybe I should just set up a cancellation date for a couple of weeks out. She said, "you want to set up a date to cancel?" I said, "I think I'd better. My wife is looking at a deal from Xfinity...triple play with a $250 Visa Prepaid card." Note: That deal was the truth but the part about my wife looking at it wasn't. I always use her as the 'bad cop' to my 'good cop'. The rep then said that she was sorry that she couldn't do more, wished me "a blessed day", and said she would transfer me to someone who could schedule my cancellation date. After a minute I was transferred to a chipper guy who asked how I was doing & "what exactly was going on today?" I laid out the above scenario for him & he then offered to take a look at what he could do for me. He included the two discounts the other rep had added, then tacked on some additional discounts to get the bill lowered a little. He then said that they could get me the ST added & keep my monthly bill about the same. I asked if that was the ST Max & he said that it was just the standard ST but he could apply a one time discount to cover the ST Max. Long story short (too late, I know), this is what I got: $3 credit for 12 months off of a "regional sports fee". $5 credit for 6 months off of my Sports Pak. $5 credit for 6 months off of my base package. $5 additional credit for 12 months off of my base package. $10 additional credit for 12 months off of my base package. $10 Advanced Receiver -DVR credit for 12 months. $102 one time credit for Sunday Ticket Max Free Sunday Ticket (standard) Good luck to everybody else planning to make a call. Well done. Congrats!
ExWNYer Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Well done. Congrats! Thanks. I had to edit...I forgot to add that he threw in 4 months of Showtime for free. I didn't ask for it, he volunteered it. We chatted for a while about football, too. He was a Packer fan just outside of Seattle. Nice guy.
Gisele Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 $30 off for one year $10 off for one year $10 off for one year $5 off for six months Free Showtime for 4 months FREE SUNDAY TICKET!!!!! Only a one year commitment. It was a little easier this year than it has been in past years. However, my brain still hurts so I'm gonna have a beer. Good luck!
Gisele Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 $30 off for one year $10 off for one year $10 off for one year $5 off for six months Free Showtime for 4 months FREE SUNDAY TICKET!!!!! Only a one year commitment. It was a little easier this year than it has been in past years. However, my brain still hurts so I'm gonna have a beer. Good luck! I take that back. They had to install a wireless Genie so I had to upgrade equipment. Same price for now, but a two year agreement kicked in. Haggling is gonna be a lot tougher next year.
KellyToTasker Posted August 8, 2015 Posted August 8, 2015 Last year, due to recent freebies, I paid full price (I didn't even attempt to ask for a discount and thought it was the right thing to do in paying full price - Directv has been great for me over the years since 2004). This year, I knew I had leverage going in. I started off the phone call immediately asking if I was under contract and subsequently I was transferred to retention (without asking for retention). We made small talk and they thanked me for being a long term subscriber. The initial offer was $20 off for 12 months and $9 off a month for the ticket (times 6 months). At this point, I made my move. I gave my wife the phone. It's a great play. They'll call my bluff (they know I'm a fan and will pay), but they'll make great offers when she speaks. Ultimately, they gave us the ticket for free and $20 off a month for a year. Success!!!!!!!
zow2 Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 I got some newbie person in retention who was very nice but said she couldn't find any decent discounts for Sunday ticket Max. She finally got a supervisor to come over and that person reiterated that I should call back closer to the season and they will have better discounts to offer. In the meantime, the newbie lady gave me $120 credit immediately for being a loyal customer (15 years) and another loyalty credit of $10/mo. for 6 months. So that's $180 credit for doing nothing and i will call back in a couple weeks and have another conversation specifically about ST Max. **Update**, i called back and spoke w/ a very sweet retention lady. She ended up giving me ST Max for free. Then without asking she offered me an additional $30 credit x 12 months if I agreed to stay with Directv for another year. Of course I will so there's another huge credit. I almost felt guilty about it.
eball Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 DirecTV related -- anyone else see the pricing for Center Ice? I got a renewal notice on my latest statement that says it will be 4 payments of $34.99. $140 for the season is not bad.

They have that new plan can just get one team for a 20% discount...but why anyone would that is beyond me.

Either way, a no brainer so I can see the rebirth of my Sabres. Edited August 11, 2015 by eball

I'll probably still call for a discount. After I received the Sunday Ticket discount the lady told me to call back for hockey.
zevo Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 so i called back after aug 8th like the rep told me to do because that was when my current offers expired.....the previous call netted me ST max for free. i spoke to a rep today and she credited me 30$ off for 12 months, hbo for free for 6 months, some other small discounts getting me to around 75$ a month before taxes. I asked her if any of these discounts and free ST max was requiring me to extend my contract and she said no which i found interesting. i asked her were there any offers tgo extend my contract and she said not currently but all my discounts including the ST max were customer loyalty discounts. so i netted pretty much what i got last year without having to extend the contract...not too shabby
BuffaloBud Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 Bill due Wed. Called customer service about rate consideration. They forwarded me to NFL Sunday Ticket office. Rep there said they could give me 50% off. He then forwarded me to customer retention for some other possible discounts. Explained to rep at customer retention that I was a Directv subscriber since 2000. Wound up getting this year Sunday ticket for free and got $40 / month off the base bill. Happy dance!!
MaineMoxie Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 Well, after seven seasons of Sunday Ticket (and 12 years with DirecTV in general), I finally cut the cord completely on DirecTV. Instead I signed up for NFL Game Pass (and traded in DTV for a Roku box and a digital antenna). I figured I'll probably get at least five games this season that I didn't need ST for (the primetime games, the two New England games, and the London game) which means I was really only paying for eleven games. Plus the only reason I held on to DTV was ST. I realize I will not get the games live (unless I log in through a VPN which may work), but I get them as soon as the last 4 PM game ends and I can skip the ads if I want or pause in the middle. The money saved means I can now get NHL Center Ice (which I can stream through my Roku box).
BuffaninATL Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 I'd really like to know why you think taking food out of the mouths of the families of Directv executives is honorable or seemly? The price you pay is the price you pay, Mr. E. Ball (if that is even your real name - handles and pseudonyms are also dishonorable). Nothing in life is negotiable. I really hope you're joking - seriously. I don't see a sarcasm meter so maybe you're not. Nothing is negotiable? Sure, if you want to pay full price. And those DTV executives you referred to? I'm sure they are concerned about your 3rd botched installation while they are looking for those scraps of food.
BuffaninATL Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 Most ppl don't ask for deals bc they made a choice to order a service and they honor that choice by paying for it. I think it's ridiculous to always expect to get something for free which causes the paying customers to pay more but that's just my opinion. Be happy you even hv the choice to order it as I can't even get DTV or the NFL to take my money. DTV is no longer an option for me due to trees that are not mine and DTV only offers their streaming service to select few. There is no reason why DTV and the NFL can't offer streaming of the ST to everyone. I'm sorry bro but you sound lost & confused, as if negotiating is a foreign concept. So are you content with paying full MSRP for everything b/c you think that keeps the price down for everyone? Have you ever heard of simple microeconomic terms like profit margin & price elasticity/inelasticity? As per the bolded, don't think for a second the "paying customers" pay more b/c of those of us who negotiate better pricing for ourselves. DTV and the NFL have a tidy/massively profitable little venture going. Don't be fooled and come off like a Pollyanna.
Webster Guy Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 I'd really like to know why anyone believes that asking a service provider to give a discount is "dishonorable" or unseemly? I know right. as if directv is really giving away anything. even with the nfl ticket for free its still a huge ripoff. it's good to know there are still lambs out there for the big companies to slaughter though.....
Dante Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 I just got off the phone. I used the wife and Xfinity angle that exWNYer used. Not quite as successful as some here but not to bad. Got Sunday Ticket comped but not Max. Have to pay 17 a month for that. They also took $40 dollars a month off my monthly bill. I mean, I didn't have to take Max but I did for the red zone channel.

BuffaloSol Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 Search Google for slickdeals.net direct tv current customers. They explain everything. Basically call in get to customer retention set up a cancelation date for a couple weeks out and wait for the email or call. They will throw the book at you, just hold out on the phone call and they will give you Sunday max, all the movie chanels for 3 months, and a 30-40 dollar bill credit for 12 months.
