NoSaint Posted August 14, 2015 Posted August 14, 2015 You underestimated Chris Hogan 2 years ago and continue to do so. If there are loads of guys just sitting out there waiting to be Chris Hogan then why can receiver needy team like the Bills were for years or let's say last year's Chiefs find them? our problem wasn't the inability to find a hogan, our problem was we had guys like him sitting from top to bottom of the depth chart. We were a case study in how easy it is to find #4 wide receivers the way we collected them. If the Chiefs signed Chris hogan to start, they'd be a wr needy team still.
GunnerBill Posted August 14, 2015 Posted August 14, 2015 That is only true if I agree with your premise that Hogan is "only a #4 receiver" which I don't.

Not that I want to jump back into this conversation but that was the crux of the argument. It wasn't about the player as it was the type of player. If Da'Rick was the moron that he turned into you could release him immediately. The Colts did this at the 1st sign of trouble. If he developed the talent that he had he could have easily been a 1 or 2 in the league. If Hogan (as an example) was cut and then Da'Rick got arrested and cut you could have signed Hogan or someone like him to play that role. How much worse off would you be with a guy like Deonte Thompson? #4 receivers can be found anywhere, especially if they don't have a skill that differentiates them (size or speed). Hogan has turned into a decent NFL receiver but I still don't think that the team would be hurt if he wasn't here and Deonte Thompson filled his spot. I feel the same way about Cyril Richardson. He was a great college player with a lot of ability. I would rather you keep him than a guy like Pears even if Pears was more reliable. You can always find someone that can do what Pears is capable of but you cannot necessarily find someone that can develop into a Pro Bowler. You give them a year or two (unless they are an idiot like Da'rick then they get 1 chance). If they develop great, if not you let them go and sign Pears or someone like Pears. Bottom of the depth chart guys grow on trees and are interchangeable. Hogan has turned out to be a solid bottom of the depth chart guy but he is still competing for the 4th spot. Even then he may not see as many snaps as Goodwin who will be used a specialist. If everyone if healthy I would think that Goodwin would see more opportunities because his elite skill has to be accounted for. Hogan will play more if he is needed every down. I promise that I will not comment further on the topic but those are my feelings...
