machine gun kelly Posted June 1, 2015 Posted June 1, 2015 He needs help with weapons. He had a sophomore slump, but played well his third year when they went 12-4. Last year was hard given their defensive losses. They did beat the Cardinals in the playoffs. The going rate for a starting QB seems to be in the $20 million range. I think this was a little high, but for the people who keep wishing we pick up a franchise AB IN FREE AGENCY, just accept that almost at never ever happens.

Brady, Brees, Manning, Roetlisberger, Luck, Romo, Eli, Rogers and Wilson are the only ones I might consider over him...and at least 5 of them are nearing the end of their careers. He really hasn't had much to work with... when he had Steve Smith, that is all he had...now he has Benjamin, and not much else. Very overrated set of running backs.... mediocre o-line....he can make every throw, and can run the ball very effectively (though the injuries might be starting to catch up). Two playoff appearances in four years on teams with good-decent defenses, and enemic on offense...he carried the Panthers those years as much as any QB had in recent years.

Aaron Rodgers, Ben roethlisberger, Andrew luck, Philip Rivers, Russell Wilson, tony Romo, drew Breeds, tom Brady, matt Ryan, joe flacco. for sure better. Even if a different system qb or style. Jay cutler, Andy Dalton, Colin kaepernick, cam newton... all about the same. Imagine ej Manuel with a better arm and more likely to run. Newton can't thread a needle, see the field and most importantly play QB. He propensity to run is a liability and it damages him. He needs to move the ball thru he air 8-12 yards instead of on the ground. He doesn't throw those passes because he can't make those passes. He makes highlights airing it out and you never see the ones sailing wildly by the WR. That's why they drafted Benjamin to haul them in and that's why Avant bad mouthed the team and Cam then was cut. Newton is a very good QB and would be our best since Bledsoe, but he is not a great QB just a great football player $100mm is about right for 5 years because in 3-4 years it'll be restructured to another 4-5 yr deal

People will always say Roethlisberger is overrated, basing it on stats..but if you watch him play you come away much more impressed. A fan favorite and a good performed. That's it. He will be like McNabb, Bledsoe, Vick, others. He doesn't have that pizza that guys like Eli and Flacco have - that clutch reliability, that focus and that ability to transcend where the game is on your shoulders to not lose. He is a fastball thrower. Not a closer. I watch a lot of him. If his team ever wins a Super Bowl it will be as much because the defense built around Thomas Davis and Luke Keuchly and one of the most underrated, young DB's units in the league playing behind a top 5 DL even after losing Gregg Hardy.

I just would put him around the 12-15 range. He's definitely dynamic. The defense was one of the top in the league the first time he made the playoffs. The second time, he carried the team to a 7-9 playoff birth in the worst division in the league. It's still the playoffs, but not very impressive given how historically bad the division was. I think he decides to run too quickly, but he could get better at that. We'd be Super Bowl favorites if we had him, IMO. Edited June 1, 2015 by LBSeeBallLBGetBall

Smith was a 2 at best when he was here. Olson is his best receiver at TE. His line has been suspect similar to the Bills. He isn't perfect but the only QBs I'd take over him are Rogers, Brady, Luck.

The first year they played from behind consistently. Cam, with one month of camp(owners lockout season) came in and threw for 400+ in his first two games and 4000+ to break Manning's rookie record. He sucked out loud in the preseason and it was shocking what he came out and did. Then the Panthers got Mike Shula as an OC and ran a much more conservative offense while the Onus was put on the D. In terms of Smith, stats are for loser which the Panthers were 10 times his first year with Cam. I would rate him Stevie Johnson in his prime, at that point. He caught a lot but they were playing catch up and the D sucked. Steve Smithwas not dictating coverage. Shockey and Olson combined for over 1000 that first year also. They were 2 and 3, I would guess. Olson is good, but he's not Hernandez or Graham good. Finally, you don't set a rookie passing record without being an incredible talent. Cam has been hamstrung by a lack of weapons and an infuriatingly inconsistent OC scheme. Sometimes Shula looks like a genius...other times like N. Hackett.

Once again I think Cams good, no doubt, just not top four good In saying that I would have loved to see him come here. This team would be thinking Super Bowl.

boyst Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 Steve smith is a HOF WR. I guess that makes him one of the best WR's of all time. Or the very best #2 WR of all time - right there with Alvin Harper, I guess. Can Newton is overrated. But so is Rivers and E Manning. Flacco and Romo are underrated.
