Ok, so I have two brothers that are Jests fans. All last year they were yelling at the TV "don't they know they still have Simms". They wanted Simms instead. Based on that evidence I'm torn. I want Simms to stick because he is good enough just to laugh at them....But If he wasn't good enough to unseat the jokes of QB's they had I come back down to earth and say unless someone gets a season ending injury I'm not interested. BUT....our QB coach also coached him last year so he must have seen something in him that is better than Tuel so there is that too. I'm going to hold on to my 1$ on this one.

lol I remember Jets fans calling for Simms last year - and that's because of the trash they had ahead of him at the position. I think he's probably about as valuable as Tuel but that Rex just happens to have a comfort level with him, hadn't seen anything from Tuel thus far to make him feel he should hang onto him, and perhaps he can gain some early knowledge of the jets playbook. I'm think that would be....his knowledge of the Jests playbook, assuming the QB coach knows he has a decent football head and can get into it. Ryan is big into taking every legal advantage he can.

Did anyone ask why the Jets, who are as bad in the QB position as the Bills, just cut a great QB prospect?

he asked to be released

Who said he was a "great qb prospect?"

Who said he was a "great qb prospect?"

Why would he ask for his release given the garbage ahead of him on the roster?

“I’m happy to be reunited with Rex,” Simms said, adding that Ryan and Lee “know my personality. They know the type of guy I am.”
Lee, while with the Jets, praised Simms’ work ethic. Lee said last August, “Matt Simms has improved as much as any guy I think I can ever remember coaching.

I'm guessing that's the reason he is here and has a chance to make the team.

the David Lee connection is one I forgot about and It seems like they simply think he's a better option at 4th string qb than Tuel.

Sure, but when a coach says something like this about a specific player, he probably thinks his ceiling is pretty high and is willing to go get him. I'm assuming Lee has coached up quite a few players in his day and it seems like high praise to me. And it's always good to have a solid connection with your coach.

another thing I just remembered ... Anyone else recall when it was reported that roman would focus on coordinating the run game, while Lee would handle coordinating the passing game? More fuel to the idea that Lee preferred Simms on the team (at least during TC) as he has familiarity with the concepts perhaps utilized last couple years in NJ. Edited by YoloinOhio

That's just the Brohm syndrome. Everyone is better than the current QB.

These threads are getting ridiculous.

Simms is a camp arm who's only other NFL training camp option other than the Jets was the Bills. If Simms makes the team over Manuel, Taylor or Cassel then I'm done with the Bills until a new GM and coaching staff is in place.

That seems ridiculous!! As the chance of Simms making the roster is slim or an injury situation leads to it....but....to say you are done with the GM and staff is silly. Either you are crazily irrational or just like to hear yourself!!

I'd say that pretty much sums it up at this point. It sounds like Ryan hated Tuel from the get-go.

That's not what the NSA says.If Matt Simms was named Matt Simmons, he'd be flipping burgers right now.

i will take a dbl cheese burger please.

lol. and fixed.

but, but . . . but there's no such thing as 4th string QB in the NFL. Most teams keep 3, some only keep 2. Sure there's Practice Squad, but do we know if Simms is even eligible for PS?

(full disclosure: I always liked Tuel)
