This is their first in the 2nd, the first time Brady is at the age when players hit the wall, the first time the backup is getting equal reps in practice, and first time the assumed backup looks probable to start the first 4 games. Use word "assumed" backup because Bellicheck did not specify who's #1 on the depth chart, only seeming to indicate it was open to competition

Yes, you've said that several times. It's the part no one here other than you believes.

You keep leaving out the part where it's the first time they knew they wouldn't have their SB champion starter for the first 4 games.

Here, let's make it easier--if Brady wasn't suspended, would there be an "open competition" at OTA's righ now? Of course not. Stop..

Probably not. But if Bledsoe hadn't missed a good chunk of the season in 2001, would Tommy have started?

I've already answered that, no. But that's not relevant now. The point is that Brady being out has opened the door for change at the position. Will it happen? Who knows. But is there is chance now? Yes. Just like no way they'd start 7th round Brady over the recently extended $103 million man bledsoe. But Bledsoe went down and it gave them the opportunity to get a good look at the backup. If the team starts 4&0 and garoppolo looks the part, then look out Edited by JTSP

At some point soon. Bledsoe was not in the same position Brady is in now--not even close.

Brady didn't go down. He's not "out" indefinitely, so the rest of your premise is irrelevant.

Not sure what you're talking about. Bledsoe came back that same season, but not as the starter Edited by JTSP

Unlikely they would have benched their $100M QB without seeing Brady play on the field first. The injury gave them the perfect excuse to do so and the rest is history.

And Brady is where Bledsoe was in that he's old and expensive. Again, it's the reason they changed their QB drafting philosophy and took JG in the 2nd, which isn't where you draft a QB to flip him for a higher pick. This just might be the opening for them to part ways with Brady. It's unlikely but never say never.

Considering the players NE lost, they're now calling it the "tertiary".

wit-ty my man !!

i was hoping to drop ancillary in there. But too late. much better word score tertiary

Tom Brady just won a Super Bowl and was the MVP. Bledsoe was coming off a 5-11 season. You are really trying to compare where Bledsoe was to Brady's current situation? Laughable.

Yes, SOMEDAY Jimmy Grapppolodh might replace a retired Tom Brady. Not this season.

Brady will be 38 in august. How much longer you think he has? This is not a team that gets all sentinental and hangs onto players

I know the situation. I'm not going to bicker, because we will just have to see, won't we? Jimmy Grapoljxca isn't a better option than Brady for this season, and probably won't get the job until Brady retires.

You highlighted the comparison he was making, "in that he was old and expensive", and then took issue with an argument about career trajectory that was not being made...

Okay. Who wants to make a bet that Tom Brady will be the starter for the remaining games (barring injury, or sitting out after clinching the playoffs) on the schedule, after his suspension is over?

How many takers? Stand behind this silliness!

odds?

What do you need odds for?

Well, unless all this speculation is just silly blather from people who think they have some special insight into the managing of the the Patriots.

The weird thing of it all is it feels like a few people hope JG surpasses Brady- which would pretty much be the worst thing possible for us.

There is virtually no chance of either of those.

Then this thread is stupid. Of course Brady will eventually retire, or leave. And yeah, the Patriots hope that Grappuldo is good enough to replace him SOMEDAY.
