YoloinOhio Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 http://www.foxsports.com/nfl/story/jim-schwartz-buffalo-bills-detroit-lions-nfl-officials-2015-052515 FOX Sports has learned that Schwartz will be serving as a consultant to the league's officiating department for the 2015 season. Schwartz's main role is to help provide a coach's perspective with some of the decisions made by the officiating office, a source told FOX Sports.
boyst Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 I want to say I like this guy, that he really got the raw end of the deal in Detroit and all this supporting him but being carried off the field at his request in Detroit still holds me back from saying it.
PromoTheRobot Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 If Schwartz has a beef with anyone it's St. Doug, not Rex.
Rubes Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 Hell, maybe they could ask me to be a consultant to provide a fan's perspective on some of those decisions. I wouldn't charge much.
Big C Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 I want to say I like this guy, that he really got the raw end of the deal in Detroit and all this supporting him but being carried off the field at his request in Detroit still holds me back from saying it. Heh, I don't know. I think it was purposely silly, but somewhat classless.
Miyagi-Do Karate Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 Weird that he didn't get another DC gig. I do think he made the right decision leaving--- would have never worked with Rex.
3rdand12 Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 (edited) Weird that he didn't get another DC gig. I do think he made the right decision leaving--- would have never worked with Rex. he had offers. if i recall correctly. but announced he was taking a year off from coaching. He remains one of my favorites. He also made a great impression on the players Edited May 25, 2015 by 3rdand12
Lurker Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 It's the perfect "green room" for Jim--stay connected, get the opportunity to study every team and wait for a 2015 opening or multiple offers for 2016...
Uncle Monkeyhead Posted May 26, 2015 Posted May 26, 2015 Weird that he didn't get another DC gig. I do think he made the right decision leaving--- would have never worked with Rex. You said it. I thought he would have been the #1 sought after DC. There are some sh!tty defenses out there that could have used him.
YoloinOhio Posted May 26, 2015 Author Posted May 26, 2015 If I'm Schwartz, I "consult" them on the trend of having refs "explain" calls on the broadcasts - it only further illustrates the inconsistency of the officials. They do it in nba too and it's maddening for fans.
bigK14094 Posted May 26, 2015 Posted May 26, 2015 (edited) Of course, he can keep the two yr remainder of his bills contract....what was it $2 or $3 million per year . consulting w league office is good duty, likely fee free. He is NOT giving up any of that Bills cash to do this. Likely the Bills approved this as a "non-competitive" activity imho. Edited May 26, 2015 by bigK14094
Manther Posted May 26, 2015 Posted May 26, 2015 he had offers. if i recall correctly. but announced he was taking a year off from coaching. He remains one of my favorites. He also made a great impression on the players I think he is taking a year off because his stock his high. By coaching as a DC it can't get much higher, but, can get lower. I think it is a good business and career move for him.
pbanach Posted May 26, 2015 Posted May 26, 2015 Hopefully he tells the Officials to.not give Hughes unsportsmanlike conduct penalties for being hyped and slapping his teammate on the helmet!
eball Posted May 26, 2015 Posted May 26, 2015 The Bills did interview him for the HC job after Saint Doug quit, right?
Coach Tuesday Posted May 26, 2015 Posted May 26, 2015 (edited) I wonder if that income counts as offset against what Terry has to pay him not to coach this year? Edited May 26, 2015 by Coach Tuesday
