Quote from article from ESPN:

Gailey said the decision was made months ago, before they acquired Fitzpatrick in a trade with the Houston Texans. At that time, in March, Fitzpatrick was informed he'd be the backup, according to Gailey.

But no one said it publicly.

Fitzpatrick hasn't been able to compete at full strength because he's still recovering from a broken leg, sustained last December. The veteran journeyman has been limited in OTA practices, but he should be 100 percent by camp.

It is predestination. The Jests decided they were going to give him full support until they could not do so despite fans being unhappy.

@MMehtaNYDN: Willie Colon says Geno Smith "was never ready" to be the Jets starter http://t.co/s4FTRSwddY

Colon said Geno Smith has the keys to the Jets' starting QB gig, but can't afford to "crash" this season

I never fail to be amazed at the extent to which the football press will manufacture controversy.

I hear Bowles and Gailey saying the same thing, and now Colon: It's Geno's job to lose, he's the expected starter, but if he doesn't step up, there are footsteps behind him.

And of course Colon meant that Geno wasn't ready to be the starter when he was forced into action, not that he could never be ready.

Didn't Chan get Kordell to a Pro Bowl?

I've always wondered what Chan might have done if he actually worked with a talent like Andrew Luck. Would it be great or does Chan actually need to work with the QBs who step on their own shoelaces coming out of the huddle?
