Assuming that Gilmore/Dareus/Kyle/Mario/Cordy/A. Williams/ etc. are considered Nix guys or predecessor guys, who are the top players Whaley gets credit for.

Jerry Hughes and Lesean McCoy seem to be the only two. Maybe Preston Brown. But really, other than hughes and an RB with a bloated contract has Whaley really added talent that is more than role players?

Are you really trying knock him for not having more sure fire superstars after he oversaw exactly 1 draft? By comparison buddy had 3 drafts. I would sure hope he drafted more of the stars on the team.

Edit* I realize he oversaw the most recent draft as well but we have no idea how this one turned out yet.

If you managed to exclude Sammy Watkins you either didn't think this through or are blatantly trolling. Either way it's a massive strike against your crusade. Edited by Kirby Jackson

Its not just player additions.

Its also subtractions. Byrd, for one. Whaley has a vision and we're seeing it unfold.

Also, Whaley was around when Nix was here, and was the heir-apparent. Surely he had some input before being elevated to GM.

FWIW, I was with Whaley right after the Gilmore draft and he raved about him. He had tons and tons of input. Also, as a side note they tried really, really hard in that draft to move up to select Mark Barron. While that would have been a disaster they got it right with Gilmore.

and though he wasn't the GM when he was drafted, he did extend AW

The only starring thing with Whaley was a propensity to forward x-rated material.

I always thought Shawne Merriman built the Bills with his incredible recruiting skills anyway.

Hasn't Whaley only been in charge of the last two drafts? It seems to get complicated if we try to give him credit or ding him for any drafts or specific draft picks before the last two.

I cannot give Whaley all that much credit for the Watkins pick since Watkins was viewed as the top WR in the draft going into that draft and the Bills gave up a first and fourth to get him. My view is that a GM shows drafting expertise when a player far exceeds expectations based on where he was picked or the GM bypasses more highly rated players at a specific position and drafts a player with a lower rating who turns out to be the superior player.

Hughes was Nix too.

Watkins, hopefully. As pointed out above, Clay and McCoy.

Not surprising, though, considering he's been the GM since May 13, 2013. Two drafts, and one of those drafts haven't even seen a training camp, much less a season.

Remember, everyone thought Nix sucked after two seasons too. Now he looks great except for QB. The lesson? It takes years to evaluate a GM, years.
