Like A Mofo Posted February 9, 2005 Posted February 9, 2005 Since Shane Matthews is most likely gone, and if Drew stays on either as the #1 or #2 QB, would any of you object to the Bills taking a flyer on a QB maybe in the 6th, 7th round to serve as a #3 QB instead of signing a re-tread? Who knows, if J.P. never worked out for whatever reason, maybe the Bills can hit paydirt like the Pats did with Brady, who knows. Thoughts?
stuckincincy Posted February 9, 2005 Posted February 9, 2005 That's a common practice around the league.
/dev/null Posted February 9, 2005 Posted February 9, 2005 i've suspected for sometime the bills would take a 2nd day QB to groom as JPs backup

Thoughts? 233849 well, i don't think matthews is gone....... but that is the besides the point -- i wouldn't have a problem with the pick because you can always stash a guy on the practice squad, especially now that the squads expanded this past season........
Snorom Posted February 9, 2005 Posted February 9, 2005 I think its a wise move, thats how the Pats got Brady, Montana was another low rd steal. However there needs to be a veteran QB prescence somewhere in our rotation. This is why I think we end up keeping Drew for one more season. He knows the system better then anyone and he doesn't save us enough to cut. He pretty much just gives us enough money back to sign a vet to replace him.

stuckincincy Posted February 9, 2005 Posted February 9, 2005 The Bills aren't renowned for their evaluation of qb talent. Kemp, Ferguson, Kelly over 45 years. Dumped Lamonica and Harris.

BillsFan Trapped in Pats Land Posted February 9, 2005 Posted February 9, 2005 What???? No love for Dennis Shaw and Todd Collins! 233895 If I ever see Todd Collins (he's from a nearby town), he's got a swift kick in the balls coming.
Like A Mofo Posted February 9, 2005 Author Posted February 9, 2005 What???? No love for Dennis Shaw and Todd Collins! 233895 Bruce Mathison was a real keeper too.
stuckincincy Posted February 9, 2005 Posted February 9, 2005 What???? No love for Dennis Shaw and Todd Collins! 233895 I suppose mentioning Amhad Rashad and Haven Moses would be rubbing it in...

Astrobot Posted February 9, 2005 Posted February 9, 2005 If Stephen LaFors from Louisville were available in the 4th, I'd take him. And if Jason White from Oklahoma were around in RD#5, he'd be a consideration. Other than that, I'd take my chances with FA's.
Snorom Posted February 9, 2005 Posted February 9, 2005 Montana was a 3rd round pick. I don't know if I would call that a "low round" steal. 233887 I thought he was lower then that, but its still an impressive pick up in the 3rd rd.
Happy Days Lois & Clark Posted February 10, 2005 Posted February 10, 2005 I like Stefan Lefors. He's very accurate and is mobile. Some compare him to a Jeff Garcia type player.
silvermike Posted February 10, 2005 Posted February 10, 2005 I think there should always be a low-round/UDFA kicking around training camp. Some guys just don't show up on radars, then once they've got a pro coach talking sense to them or a decent blocker or a reliable receiver, they suddenly bust out of nowhere. If they're no good, well, it was that or Dylan McFarland. If they're good - somewhere between the next Frank Reich and that New England guy - you've got something that's helping your team.
Pete Posted February 10, 2005 Posted February 10, 2005 I am all for it and am hoping for it. I wouldnt mind seeing the Bills draft a QB with their 3rd or 4th pick. I would love to see JP, Mathews and a drafted QBas are 3 QBs.
