Virginians better keep their pants up

Better they waste time writing up, debating, and passing a bill about pulling up one's pants then waste time writing up, debating, and passing a bill about how they feel the money one makes is really the states and so why not increase taxes by X.

Yeah, instead they pass a law with a fine of $50 that'll cost the state an average of $1000 per incident to enforce. That's good for an already overburdened legal system that is putting violent criminals back on the streets because there isn't enough money to keep them locked up.

Big picture, meat.

But where do you draw the line?

OK, wearing your pants around your knees is OK, and letting everyone see your boxers... but now, what happens when the boxers start to drop? Wait, its a FREE country, we can do what we want!

Please, you people are so frigging paranoid that the "government is out to control everyone". No, in this case, they are out to nip a situation in the bud.

Remember, these are elected Virginian officials. Blame the voters.

You are so out of touch with reality it's hard to rationalize anything you say.

I would argue my point but I fear it will fall on deaf (or more likely dumb) ears.

BTW, I'm sure there wasn't much talk about telling the voters what they could wear in the campain ads for these "officials".

I'll blame the voters when they re-elect these morons.

Thanks for answering my question.  Ladies and Gents, here is an example of what liberal arts colleges add to our "culture".

From what I can tell, your only question was "You learn anything in college?"...

Well, I graduated Cum Laude with a dual degree - BusAd Marketing and BusAd MIS.

So, no - I didn't.

But maybe I should have stayed longer, and I could have learned how to make witty remarks on a message board. Damn that advisor of mine.

I'm glad people are starting wake up and see this nonsense for what it is. The USA is becoming one giant HOA dictated by the Moral Majority. Our freedoms are eroding quicker from within than any outside influence can effect.

Please can we maintain a separate church and state ? And we look at the muslim countries as funny because they are dominated by the Muslim religion. Well look in our own backyard folks !

Where is the connection between the Moral Majority (read conservative Christians) and this article? I'm sorry, I don't see it. You've been watching the news too much -- everything can be blamed on conservative Christians -- especially taking away rights -- but nothing can be blamed on any other religious group because it would show religious intolerance. Just see any reference to Islam and terrorism, the media is doing everything they can to separate the two.

Ok, I'll just follow along with your ignorant paranoia... THE SKY IS FALLING! Virgiania is passing a law saying people shouldn't have to look at teenagers walking around in their underwear! What will Big Brother do next??? The Sky is falling!!

(that better?)

The big picture, meat, is either a community has the right to set standards of decorum or it doesn't. This law is most likely similar to many other laws that are on books but rarely enforced (and thus not costing the state an average of $1000 per incident to enforce. I'd be interested in knowing how you arrived at that figure and also interested in the logic that brought about -for every kid you ticket for having their ass hanging out of their jeans the results will be one axe-murderer being released onto the streets).

Virginia has become a national laughingstock with this. If someone see your underwear, then its a $50 fine??? How ridiculous. Now, if I was a kid inclined to wear the baggy pants (or a chick who liked the low-rider jeans that show the top of a thong), I'd simply not wear any underwear and fug yuou lawmakers!! How truly and utterly ridiculous. NYS has many, many problems (as does NYC). I'm just glad that telling people how to dress is not one of them.

I don't ever EXPECT anyone to agree with me, but if you are going to argue a point, at least TRY and make a decent arguemnt.

These people are not whipping their dicks out.

They are not exposing their bodies in any way.

They are not wearing their pants around their knees.

We are talking about showing off boxers! You know, those things that look like shorts? FABRIC! It shows absolutely NOTHING!

There is actually the possiblity that a law may be passed that tells people they can not show any clothing material if it worn below their jeans! This doesn't just baffle you?

They CAN however go outside wearing LESS clothing any time they want.

It is absolutely in no way, shape, or form helping society. It is taking away someones rights, however small you may think they are, for absolutley no reason.

It's as if Miami passed a law that said wearing Bills apparel is illegal. There is no reason for it, yet many idiots in Miami would agree because they don't like seeing Bills gear being worn in their city.

It really makes no more sense than that.

EDIT * Sorry for all the mistakes in that post...I was in a hurry. <_<

Or girls showing the top of their thong. And Virginia wants to legislate against that, shame on them.

I couldn't agree more. There is very little difference in this law and in North Korea's crackdown on hair length (2 inches). I'm ssure that if the State Senate passes this and the gov signs it, it will be overturned on 1st Amendment grounds as soon as the Courts get to it. There is no compelling public reason for this law at all.

Wait a minute. Wouldn't Virginians be people from Virgin? So aren't they supposed to keep their pants on?? <_<

it's called underwear for a reason.

All of you that are freaking out about losing "freedoms" are over reacting. If someone should have the right to show 90% of their boxers, why shouldn't the guy on the corner be able to whip his d--k out? IT'S A FREE COUNTRY! When you stop Hobo Joe from whippin' out his package, your treading on everyone's rights! <_<

Please.

But what if someone throws a cup at Ron Artest????

Oh, wait...sorry, I thought you were some other potato-head. <_<

The leap is that Bush espouses the moral majority right and its values and he sets an agenda of abortion, supreme court judges, education etc. based on the moral majority dictum. Forget that the government should be religion neutral, abortion is a religious issue not a government issue.

Then we as American's look at the Iran's of the world and scoff becuase their government is so dominated by the Muslim religion. Well ours is as well. Now this underwear law is just a reflection of the moral majority not condoning RAP music and it's style of clothes. I dont like the baggy pants either, but I wouldnt pass a law against it either. It is just a fad and will go by the wayside like every other fad.

And of course let me also toss in just for laughs that this is all Bledsoe's fault because he voted for Bush.

as a resident of virginia i would like to express my opposition to this bill

1. writing a law about saggy pants is lame. aren't there more pressing matters like, say, the crappy VA interstate system to deal with?

2. i would be willing to comprise on this issue, if an amendment is passed where this law does not apply to attractive females with nice bodies wearing low rider pants and thongs <_<
