I believe he had to turn things over to just Wells. So if any private information got leaked, they'd be able to trace it back to him. Meaning Wells wouldn't take that chance.

Wells said Yee could turn over pretty much anything he wanted and Wells would trust that that was all there was.

No, they have been stripped of their first round pick. I mean finishing with the worst record, losing the #1 overall pick, and therefor picking for the first time at pick #32. That's why I said it's unusual for me to want them to have that pick.

You would rather they win another SB and miss out on the 32nd pick than doing badly and getting the #1 pick?

WEO -- because the Pats** lose their pick next year there are only 31 first round picks. He's correct in his statement.

Thanks eBall.

I don't know how to say it any clearer than I did previously. My comment was specifically driven by the same thing WEO is reacting to: I actually want the Pats** for pick 32nd (i.e. after finishing in last place).

I've been waiting for former players who knew or saw stuff to come out. Although there will also be stories of other teams messing with the rules I imagine.

It'll surely keep coming. I think we've now seen Jeff Blake and Matt leinart say it's something that's happened. I imagine we will get a few retired players say similar

Yeah but from doing a quick google, Leinart didn't say anything specific. He just said every qb tampers with the ball. That's legal to scuff it up and get it worn down and rub it hard and do whatever to it. He didn't say anything about deflating. And everyone does. But it's not illegal.

in the context of being interviewed about this incident, itd be a pretty reckless quote if he meant "everybody does the completely legal stuff" and would be odd to single out kurt warner as i doubt hes using 100% pristine out of the box balls as the quote would have to imply taken that way.

purely on an amusing level --what would really flip this board upside down, talking about retired qbs that might not have a filter, would be orton saying he did similar. not implying he did, but i chuckled thinking of the threads that would result.

The point I think is that you can tamper with the balls. It's legal. They let you do all kinds of things to them to get them to your liking. Except put air in or take air out. Edited by Kelly the Dog

right, but if in the context of discussing brady tampering outside the rules, his response was "everyone tampers with the balls" and if he didnt mean outside the rules - that would be odd i think. also using the term tamper, instead of prep kind of lends a shade over the quote. maybe hes just dumb - he never struck me as wise. but theres reason to think he meant illegal stuff and not just scuffing them up a bit.

PFT (i think) also had a specific quote from the senior bowl about coaches thinking that making a big deal out of the deflation issue was weird. i think featured in that same matt leinart piece.

i dont know how many will come out and go on record by name with full details - as its still a fraternity of sorts, and you dont throw guys hard under the bus. But "everybody does it" or "whats the big deal" type of quotes i think say something about the topic still.

I think what they meant is it's not a big deal. Letting a little air out is just the way you like the ball because it feels right. The way some like worn ones and some like newer ones. That it's just a matter of preference and how any random QB likes or doesn't like the ball. I don't think any of them were distinguishing between what may be legal and what may not. I frankly can't think of anything you could do that is illegal except letting air in or out. It's not like putting stickum on a ball would make it easier to throw.

Though isn't that precisely what a SD ball boy was caught doing (though different brand name)

The towel itself was sticky (and not against the rules), but I don't think the towel's design is to make other things sticky. Though I could imagine it took so much dirt off the ball that the ball got a bit of tackiness to it.

Ah - I thought the towel had a sticky substance on it that was being rubbed into the ball... Which was legal but no longer.
