Most of the big names in free agency have re-signed or are with new teams. While there are some smaller additions in free agency still occurring, this is the time of year when the NFL decision makers hunker down for NFL Draft prep. This is the first in a series of eight examining what the teams should be looking to address in the NFL Draft by division and we’ll start with the AFC East.

 

Buffalo Bills- DE, LB, OL, WR, DT

 

Buffalo’s biggest area of concern is in their front seven. Marcel Dareus and Kyle Williams are a formidable pair at defensive tackle, but how long can the Bills count on Williams, who turns 33 years old over the summer. Buffalo is even weaker on the edge and at the second level of their defense. At those five spots, the penciled in starters are Jerry Hughes, Jarius Winn, Manny Lawson, Preston Brown and Tony Steward. Hughes has shown greatness, but the other four all could be upgraded upon ideally and depth is certainly a problem as well.

 

The Bills did a nice job in free agency keeping Cordy Glenn and Richie Incognito, the starters on the left side of their line. But the right side was the real area of weakness last year and while they do have some youngsters that could step up, more could be used at right guard and right tackle. At wide receiver, Sammy Watkins is on the verge of stardom, but the Bills could really use another weapon to battle Robert Woods for the starting spot opposite Watkins.

Given his productivity and well-rounded game, Lawson would be a good get in this range. The Ryan brothers have to get the defense turned around or they could both be elsewhere in 2017, and Lawson is the kind of player who can get on the field early and help.

One of the best fits in the draft, Conklin is a powerful run blocker best used in a power scheme and that’s exactly how Buffalo wants to play offensively. Conklin is no slouch in pass protection either, allowing only 25 pressures on 849 snaps the last two years.

 

49. Buffalo Bills – Su’a Cravens, S/LB, USC

A tweener prospect, Cravens is more linebacker than safety and while there may not be a clean fit in Buffalo’s base defense, he projects as a nickel linebacker in their scheme. He’s strong against the run with sound instincts in coverage.

 

80. Buffalo Bills – Joshua Garnett, G, Stanford

Rex Ryan officially loves this draft as he now adds perhaps the best pulling guard in the class in Garnett. It’s a perfect fit for the Bills who love to pull their guards in the run game, and Garnett has plenty of experience in Stanford’s scheme where he posted the second-best run blocking grade in the nation last year.

I like it, although I would have preferred Correa in the 3rd. The rest of the draft would need to be dedicated to defense(and we still have 5 draft picks remaining). And we still would need a #2 WR. But we would have one of the top offensive lines in the NFL. That line would maul. 3rd and short no problem. Miller and Mills would be good depth. We could line Su'a all over, and he would be a great fit on Rex's D

Totally agree...It's like these people pay no attention...And I'm not saying I know this for certain...But I kinda doubt Rex would love any Draft combination this year that had us going 2 out of 3 on Offense...This Defense has some major holes still...

2016 NFL Mock Draft 4.0: Two-Round Edition

The 2016 NFL Draft is only 22 days away and it is only getting closer with individual workouts and private visits taking shape. With that being said, there is a lot of chatter right now about the top of the draft in terms of who will go where. In this mock draft, I’m going to predict what these teams would do on the clock, but some may NOT necessarily be the selections I would make on the clock. Also, this is not a big board in that it is a mock draft that I slot prospects to teams based on my belief of their team needs and the best player available projected on their board.

 

19. Buffalo Bills: OT Taylor Decker, Ohio State Buckeyes

 

Scouting Report

Overview: Buffalo could go a bunch of different directions here, but I think that the safe pick would be Taylor Decker, offensive tackle out of Ohio State. He would give the Bills an immediate upgrade at right tackle with the ability to move to the left side in 2017 if they don’t want to pay Cordy Glenn long-term.
