4 teams schedule one of #NFLDraft's top LB prospects for workout --> http://on.nfl.com/1UgeUyH

CdJng9pW8AAFMdK.jpg

Bills will hold a private workout with Reggie Ragland.

If they select Ragland at #19 they will have reached for need at ILB early in the draft for the FOURTH time since the "Show me the baby" era.

Net result is that they have zero ILB they are happy with.

They got lucky that Grigson called and bailed them out with Hughes in exchange for Sheppard and Kiko and Preston Brown each mustered one good season...........but you just can't keep passing by more talented players at more important positions early in the draft.

If they needed an even more talented ILB they could have just offered McClain a 3 year $12M-$15M deal........peanuts.

You won't find that kind of quality at QB, LT or non-psychotic pass rushers and WR for much less than $15m per year anymore........3x as much money.

The cost of getting players at elite positions in free agency is a key reason why you don't draft run-first defenders in round 1.

Oklahoma's pro day. One player stood out. And he might eventually be a 100-pass catcher: http://on.nfl.com/1p9HTIE

Defensive line coaches from 3 NFL teams check out Illinois' Jihad Ward --> http://on.nfl.com/1pbg9mS

Representatives from 32 NFL teams -- including defensive line coaches from the Cincinnati Bengals, Houston Texans and New England Patriots -- were on hand for the first pro day run by new Illinois coach Lovie Smith on Thursday.

Clemson
Players, scouts and coaches are leaving Clemson, and here is the latest word.

Kevin Dodd looked terrific in both defensive line and linebacker drills, displaying a lot of athleticism and ease moving around the field. His testing numbers included a 30.5-inch vertical jump, 9-2 broad jump, 4.44 in the short shuttle and 7.31 in the 3-cone. He also completed 22 reps on the bench press. The question now is how early in Round 1 will Dodd be selected?

I'm told Shaq Lawson also looked good in defensive line drills, but struggled when put through the battery of linebacker drills.

People are gushing over the position workout of Mackensie Alexander. He was very fluid and natural in all his movements. Teams love the versatility he offers and the ability to line up in multiple coverages; man coverage, backed off the line, and zone. Many are critical of Alexander's stats last season: 5 PBUs and no interceptions, but as one scout rightfully said to me, "He can't intercept the ball if no one is throwing it his way!"

T.J. Green looked much better in his positional workout at pro day compared to the Combine. He was smooth, and his footwork was much better. Green ran the short shuttle (4.4) and 3-cone (7.12) today.

Conversely, scouts were not impressed by the positional work of Jayron Kearse. He was not as nearly as quick or smooth when taking reps with Green or Alexander. As one source said, Kearse may be best off adding 20 pounds and moving to linebacker.

Finally, B.J. Goodson had a very good day in position drills and helped his stock.

Clemson's Lawson, Alexander shake off CFP injuries at Pro Day

Clemson defensive end Shaq Lawson and cornerback Mackensie Alexander showed NFL personnel they have recovered from injuries during the College Football Playoffs.

Several coaches were among the crowd — including Cincinnati's Marvin Lewis, Chuck Pagano from Indianapolis, Buffalo's Rex Ryan and Pittsburgh's Mike Tomlin — watching Lawson, Alexander and a third potential first-round draft pick in Kevin Dodd go through drills at the school's indoor workout facility.

19. Buffalo Bills
2015 record: 8-8 (.508)
Top need: Right tackle
Other needs: Defensive line, wide receiver, linebacker, kicker
Top prospects at positional needs: OT: Laremy Tunsil (Ole Miss), Ronnie Stanley (Notre Dame), Jack Conklin (Michigan State); DL: DeForest Buckner (Oregon), Joey Bosa (Ohio State), A'Shawn Robinson (Alabama), Andrew Billings (Baylor); WR: Laquon Treadwell (Ole Miss), Tyler Boyd (Pittsburgh), Corey Coleman (Baylor); LB: Myles Jack (UCLA), Jaylon Smith (Notre Dame), Leonard Floyd (Georgia); K: Roberto Aguayo (Florida State), Ka'imi Fairbairn (UCLA), Ross Martin (Duke).
Analysis: It wasn't that long ago that the Bills selected both Seantrel Henderson and Cyrus Kouandjio in the same draft to compete for the right tackle spot. Unfortunately, it is looking like neither guy will end up becoming the starter of the future, and the Bills just might agree with that sentiment. The Bills need an upgrade in talent at most of the linebacker positions. It is also looking like time to add depth all along the defensive line.

I dont disagree on Ragland....I am wondering who your 19th selection would be

Right now I am still formulating that.

First choice would be a QB. A good backup QB is worth more than a lot of starting positions and good QB's will be regularly worth $30M soon. The value of the position dwarfs all others.

With the realization that the Bills won't do that.......I like Myles Jack but he won't be there at #19. I would be looking to trade up for him but not using next years #1. I think the perceived value in rounds 2 thru 4 might make it easier than expected to move up closer to #10 though should he slip.

To me, he offers All Pro type value in RR scheme but translates to any scheme at a pro bowl level at least.

Pass rusher is my #2 priority position...Dodd looks very good, I like the huge upside and he is scheme versatile........I think he may go the way of Ziggy Ansah on draft day though because his ceiling is as a monster $20M pass rusher.

I've gotta' watch some more video of some of these guys with inside pass rush potential and scheme versatility.....I don't like the Alabama guys there, they are not pass rushers and could get redundant in a hurry if the Bills converted to a 4-3 under a new coaching staff in 2017..........but from what I've seen I don't really see anybody pop out to me like Aaron Donald did and they keep invoking his name.

I'm very interested to see how Treadwell does at his pro day.........I wouldn't reach for need but if he shows some explosiveness to go with the rest of his polished game......well the #1 need of the team in general is a WR2 to help further prop up Tyrod so aside from Jack he might be able to provide the most initial bang for the buck to boot. Tyrod is capable of great production but is probably never going to be the type to dissect a defense by throwing to 7 different guys every game so he needs quality targets who get open and can run the routes that Tyrod throws best.

I view Tyrod as a power hitter with a couple holes in his swing..........he really needs protection batting 3rd in the lineup. Sammy is his cleanup hitter.......now they need some more table setters in front to make it hard to not throw him strikes.

Of course I add weight to the key positions so LT and CB are priorities as well........and one of the top prospects there may slip.
