Bills Daily Dish - Combine Day 4

daily-dish-jaylon-smith.jpg

Today is our last day of on site coverage from Indianapolis. We’ll give you a quick hitting list of the happenings at the NFL Combine here as they pertain to the Bills. Here’s our Saturday installment that will be updated throughout the day.

LB Jaylon Smith might reach out to former Bills RB
Notre Dame LB Jaylon Smith would have been in the conversation to be the first pick in the 2016 NFL draft had he not torn his ACL and LCL in the Fighting Irish’s bowl game against Ohio State last month. His situation is not unlike that of former Bills RB Willis McGahee, who suffered a catastrophic knee injury in Miami’s national title game against Ohio State.

McGahee, though he did not play in his rookie season of 2003, still wound up being a first-round pick when the Bills chose him 23rd overall. The timing of his knee injury was similar to that of Smith. Buffalobills.com asked Smith if he might reach out to McGahee for some counsel on navigating his current situation, which will require a lot of perseverance and patience.

California's Jared Goff narrows the gap with North Dakota State's Carson Wentz. The former Golden Bears QB dazzles during the first throwing session at the combine. More on the specifics of Goff's workout as well as some of 'other' quarterbacks (and receivers) who made impressions, for better or worse.

The real combine intrigue for the Bills begins tomorrow when the defensive players begin to hit the field with the DL and LB positions.

While the quarterbacks and running backs were on the field Saturday at the Scouting Combine, the defensive backs were the final position group to pass through the interview room at Lucas Oil Stadium. And Clemson corner Mackensie Alexander certainly left a lasting impression.
