Crystal Ball: Top Prospects for 2016 NFL Draft

Recommended Posts

@SalSports

NFL Combine begins Tuesday. Here is your complete schedule with dates, positions, and some notes on participants: http://www.wgr550.com/Complete-2016-NFL-Combine-Schedule/22493279

Plenty will change before April's draft, but for Mock Draft 1.0 it's fun to think about Joey Bosa falling to the Jags at No. 5 and the Eagles landing Paxton Lynch.

BUF.png19. Buffalo Bills Robert Nkemdiche, DE, Mississippi: He has some off-field concerns that will drop him down, but Rex Ryan will think he can fix his issues. As a player, this could be a huge steal if he lasted this long.

Connor Cook was once considered a potential top 10 NFL Draft pick. Now Michigan State's all-time winningest quarterback travels to the Scouting Combine looking to rebuild his damaged stock.

Pass rusher in mock for Bills

We just posted our third edition of our mock draft watch Monday on Buffalobills.com. CBSSports.com’s Pete Prisco put his first mock draft together and has the Bills taking a pass rusher at 19 overall.

He selected Ole Miss DE Robert Nkemdiche for Buffalo at 19. Here was his assesment.

Kiper goes all-around DL in mock for Bills

A defensive playmaker has been a general need listed by Bills GM Doug Whaley as something to add to that side of the ball for Buffalo’s roster. Not surprisingly, ESPN NFL draft analyst Mel Kiper has projected a defensive lineman to the Bills at 19 overall in his latest mock draft. What’s interesting is Kiper didn’t project a pass rushing specialist.

Kiper went with an all-around defensive lineman in Clemson’s Kevin Dodd. Here was his book on the Bills’ pick at 19.

19. Buffalo Bills - Robert Nkemdiche, DL, Mississippi: The Bills probably should be looking for help on offense with this pick but as long as Rex Ryan has a say, the defensive line will get plenty of attention. Powerful and used to double-teams, Nkemdiche has the size and strength to be the defensive end Ryan had hoped Mario Williams would be. He's also quite athletic, boasting perhaps the most exciting raw talent as any defensive lineman in this draft. Ryan has never been one to shy from talent, even if it comes with red flags, as Nkemdiche does.

The showdown at the combine between the top-rated quarterbacks should make for a fascinating evaluation for NFL scouts. With their background coaching at the collegiate level, San Francisco's Chip Kelly and Houston's Bill O'Brien have an advantage and may use it to find their team's next quarterback.

19. Buffalo Bills: Robert Nkemdiche, DL, Mississippi

If Calvin Johnson follows through with his retirement plans, the Detroit Lions will be in the market for a new No. 1 receiver. And if Laquon Treadwell is still available with the 16th pick, he would be a natural fit for the Lions' offense.

19. Buffalo Bills: Sheldon Rankins, DT, Louisville

Top five QB prospects: Superman II?

Carson Wentz is a big-bodied passer with rare arm talent and stellar movement skills. Sound familiar? Yep, Bucky Brooks compares the small-school stud to Cam Newton in his QB prospect rankings.

Rex dominates press conferences. Too bad they don't count for anything.

Top wide receiver prospect Laquon Treadwell said he will not run the 40-yard dash at this week's NFL combine because he wants more time to train before running at his pro day.

DraftWire 2016 NFL Mock Draft 4.0: Pre-Combine Edition

The 2016 NFL Scouting Combine is right around the corner and I can definitively say that NFL scouts, executives, and coaches are chomping at the bit to watch the top prospects test in Indianapolis. With that being said, there is a lot of chatter right now about the top of the draft in terms of who will go where. In this mock draft, I’m going to predict what these teams would do on the clock, but some may NOT necessarily be the selections I would make on the clock. Also, this is not a big board in that it is a mock draft that I slot prospects to teams based on my belief of their team needs and the best player available projected on their board.

19. Buffalo Bills: DL A’Shawn Robinson, Alabama Crimson Tide

With the 2015-2016 NFL season coming to a close, I’ll be releasing my pre-combine top 10 rankings at each position in the coming days. You can see previous position groups that I’ve completed ranking below. Next up, a top-heavy edge defender class without a ton of premier 3-4 prospects, unlike last year’s crop at the position.
