You've been a Bills fan for too long if...

Recommended Posts

Sestak has a reputation as a dominating DT and an unbelievable athlete. I am not disparigning his accomplishments in any way. Bruce Smith is the NFL's all-time sack leader (yes, I know how long it has been an official stat) and he was a 3-4 defensive end. You would need to average 20 sacks a year for 10 years to equal him. You would need to average 13.33 sacks a year over a 15 year career or 10 sacks a year over 20 years. DID I MENTION THAT HE WAS A 3-4 DE?!? He is without question the greatest defensive player that the Bills have ever had and right there with OJ as the top overall.

I tend to try to be the hyperbole police around here. Sestak over Bruce is like saying that Jim Kelly was a better QB than Tom Brady. While Kelly was great and in the HOF he is not in the conversation of the greatest of all-time. We can be fans of Kelly and hate Brady but that doesn't mean that Kelly was ever the better player.

Not arguing with you at all, this was a great post, can't you just leave it at that. Take small breaths, smile, laugh a little bit and chill out!

"The Hit." You know what "the hit" was, as well as who delivered it, who received "the hit", what team it was against, and what game it was. And you're REALLY lucky if you were at that game & saw it live!

Great topic GBID, thanks for putting it up.

Heard Van Miller call it on the radio!

You and I are probably the only two people in the world who remember Mailon Kent!

 My father was good friends with John Mazur, he claimed Kent could throw quite the bullet!

I never missed a home game for the first eight years of the "BILLS". Still my first love. A dollar to get in and a six pack was .99. Sat on the steps of the 50 yard line and gave the seat people a beer. When the ushers said get off the stairs the fans said leave the kids alone. Worked every time. Snug under the fence a few times also. The good old days. Later I paid .50 to the kids to protect my car. They always did. What agreat time. Could go down on the field and meet the players. Thanks for the great memories. Live 300 miles away now and still love my Bills every day. 69 is a good age.

Let me see if I can get this right and I didn't google it: Mike Stratton on Keith Lincoln in Dec, '64 AFL Championship game against San Diego! My mom and dad were there and were part of the mob that rushed the field....

I just purchased an 8 x 10 copy of the "Hit" from Bills photographer Robert L Smith. Iconic. Going to have it framed.

I was a neighbor to Bills Photographer Bob Smith. A buddy of mine and I were invited as kids to go down into his basement look at his selection of game photos prior to submitting for the Buffalo news.

You took the Bus from Sunnyside Taven at the corner of Clinton and Transit to the Rockpile
You were there when Cookie wore Number 2 for the Broncos in 1965 and thought why number 2

Do you also remember...

The beer vendor way up on the Dodge Street side who, when it was freezing cold, would yell "Get your ice cold hot warm Genesee Beer here!"

Going to meet the Bills at the airport when they came back from a road game, before they started using Prior Aviation, and being able to get autographs from most of them.
