No, but Smith has never done anything as a WR so there's no reason to consider him an upgrade. As for coverage teams, 60 of Smith's 86 tackles occurred during his Jets years so not much production since. Covering kicks is a young man's occupation -- Easley is 4 years younger and has 35 tackles in his 26 games over the past two years and is recognized as an outstanding special teams player.

I suppose my post was primarily in reply to your post stating Easley was a gunner and WR while smith was a kick returner that couldn't return kicks or do anything else ever. It seemed you were overstating what Easley has been on offense and understating smith on special teams.

Agree with this. If there is any spot he could possibly take it would be Easley's, but Easley is younger, faster, and shown more grit as a gunner on ST. As for Wildcat, why? That fad has been over for a long time now. I would be pissed if they even signed him for a minimum try out contract. Complete waste.

Good enough reason to sign - let fans know team will decide who is going to be hired not media or fans.

You'd think the way Bills fans lionize gunners they'd be more appreciative.

So we'd rather have a kickoff return man and nothing else (in an era were most kickoffs are touchbacks) than a gunner and nothing else a backup WR? Not me.

I don't get the bolded statement.

Career Stats:

Receiving - Smith 104 rec., 987 yds, 5 tds Easley 2 rec., 13 yds , 0 tds

Rushing - Smith 974 yds, 4 tds Easley 0 yds, 0 tds

Passing - Smith 51 yds, 1 td Easley o yds, 0 tds

Returns - Smith 2873 yds, 4 tds Easley 171 yds, 0 tds

Total yards and tds accounted for - Smith 4883 yds, 14 tds Easley 184 yds, 0 tds

I mean I love Easley ( and would rather have him over B Smith ) but you badly understated one and overstated the other.

Tackle stats are likewise strong for smith. Don't mind dislike for his fit here but that post irked me too

Maybe this will help:

Smith 2013 rushing: 2 yrds, receiving: 27 yds, return: 106 yds

Smith 2014 rushing: 0 yds, receiving: 11 yards, return: 21 yds

Smith 2013-14 tackles: 9

Ok, so perhaps I overstated the case a bit. But that doesn't change the fact Smith was a terrible FA signing the first time around considering the $ they gave him and did very little in Buffalo.

And no, I don't misunderstand Smith. Those #s mislead people into thinking he was some kind of modern day Slash Stewart.

Return team: Half his career kick return yards came in one huge season in 2010, on a great Jets kick return unit. In Buffalo he was good but nothing special on returns (average return 3 yards less w/ Bills than w/ Jets). At 31 can we agree he's finished as a kick returner?

On offense: those 1900+ total yards have come over 9 seasons, ~200 yards per season isn't difficult to find. Would he contribute anything on offense going forward? Is he going to take touches away from McCoy/Sammy/Harvin/Woods/FJ? I think the people who misunderstand Smith are the ones who keep pegging him as a WR.

Look, good for Brad Smith for squeezing out an NFL career when he has no real position on the field, but I just don't get the notion that he belongs on the roster in 2015.

Okay. So you think we will here something soon?

It's my opinion only, but I think Landry, Smith and Spikes will all sign one year deals with the Bills between the draft and TC. I don't know how soon they will happen, but imagine it will be determined based on interest, or lack thereof, with other teams. Edited by YoloinOhio
