tomdayfan Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 He was great with the Raiders...too bad he'll always be remembered here for being part of the worst trade in Bills (and WNY sports) history. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/04/09/former-raiders-wr-art-powell-passes-away-at-age-78/
dwight in philly Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 i agree, at the time the trade was made, my original take was that it was pretty much a deal that would be beneficial to both teams.. little did i know! ouch.. trade still hurts.. but powell was an original AFL star.. im so old i remember going to a bills-ny titans game when he played for the titans..
vorpma Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 On January 1, 1967 the Bills got blown out by KC in the first AFL Championship to determine who would play in the first Super Bowl. The Offense was terrible, four Bills turnovers led to 24 KC points and Jack Kemp played a pretty bad game; Bills offense had issues all season. The Bills grabbed Keith Lincoln from SD and Tom Flores and Art Powell, we got one season out of all three where as Lamonica became the famed "Mad Bomber" for the Raiders into the early 1970's. I remember the trade well, very painful.
Green Lightning Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 Dumb trade. Didn't understand it then or now. RIP Art however.
