Kelly the Dog Posted April 5, 2015 Posted April 5, 2015 I think Rex and Roman and Sanjay Gupta are going to be pleasantly surprised at how good Goodwin is as a receiver and weapon. If they draft or sign another tall TE as a receiver type I could see them going with a ridiculous speed/talent group instead of adding a big guy. They seem to like Justin Brown, too. I think Hogan may not make the team. It all depends on how many TEs Roman wants to keep. He would like four. But with Boobie and Felton around he may keep three. We have been keeping six WR with Easley being one, and always active barring injury, but rarely playing WR. That's going to be a tough choice on who to keep as #4 or #5 WR (if we keep six).

Agree with all of this. Teams and regimes build the bottom of their roster differently. The Bills ST were elite last year b/c they had 7 players active to do nothing but ST (Carpenter, Schmidt, Gay, Easley, Sanborn, Dean & Thigpen). That number could easily change to 4-5 (Carpenter, Schmidt, Sanborn and Easley). Gay signed s new deal but could be expendable. That leaves 2 extra roster spots if they elect to go that way. They may be intrigued by Goodwin as a specialist just like Jordan Gay is. Maybe you try to hit him on the bomb once or twice a game. You will hit a few, draw a few PI flags and he will be an important player. It's not unrealistic to think that between deep passes and long PI penalties that Goodwin makes 7-8 big plays this year. That is a pretty large contribution from the bottom of your roster.
boyst Posted April 5, 2015 Posted April 5, 2015 You are an insane person. With all due respect, of course. Why? Dixon and Graham and Easley just for starters are pro bowlers or pro bowl caliber. Harvin is an incredible return guy. Carpenter is a great kicker. Schmidt a decent punter. Our backup safeties all are good tough ST guys. Woods plays ST. We are totally fine there. It's the offseason. I gotta have something to chew on. That seemed like a good thought for the last 3 or 4 days to think about. Don't worry, I'll have a great idea next week. Chris Hogan to CB? 3rd receiver. Not sure where you're getting your depth chart from. Woods, Watkins, Harvin... Clay almost, even, before Jennings.
Max997 Posted April 5, 2015 Posted April 5, 2015 (edited) I'd take Welker in a heart beat. Are they concerned about his concussions? Welker is done...they also already hv enough smaller WRs Edited April 5, 2015 by Max997
Bills Fan in MD Posted April 5, 2015 Posted April 5, 2015 Wes Welker is available, also. Reggie Wayne, as well. Hakeem Nicks and Michael Crabtree are available, too. Jerrel Jerrigan & Donnie Avery are out there. I think one of these guys might be wearing our jersey next year. There is a Vet WR we're bringing in. edit: Thigpen is still an RGA, also. I think I'd like him back as soon as we retain Brandon Spikes. Crabtree's not worth even discussing. He wants to be paid like a #1 receiver.
Beerball Posted April 5, 2015 Posted April 5, 2015 Harvin and Thigpen are both luxuries to the roster. Thigpen adds to the ST units by playing on coverage units - Harvin can't. Goodwin cannot, either. Hogan can. I have thought about over and it would be completely shocking but not out of this world if Harvin did not even make the team when it comes down to it because the way he will be used. Now you've switched to Jennings and have Harvin as the 3rd WR.

Not sure Jennings would get that opportunity.Crabtree's not worth even discussing. He wants to be paid like a #1 receiver.last I knew money walks. BS talks. Crabtree doesn't have cleats on, he isn't going anywhere right now

We can't have all of our weapons in the field Harvin can line up at HB/FB in addition to the boundary and slot. He'll be one of the last weapons to come off the field I'm guessing.

Say we run 65 plays - I imagine he will easily be on the field for 15 3 wide formations at minimum and then atleast half (probably more) of the remaining. That would be 40 snaps plus special teams. and you likely see some where he's at hb instead of wr. In all Id be surprised if he's sub 40 snaps plus special teams which is a pretty stark contrast to JB saying 10-15 Edited April 5, 2015 by NoSaint

In all Id be surprised if he's sub 40 snaps plus special teams which is a pretty stark contrast to JB saying 10-15 Alright, 4 to 5 kickoff returns a game, 5 punt returns. That's 10 plays. I do not know if he is going to play on any coverage units or play any special positions, like HB, that often. Once a game, maybe that's a stretch. With other, larger and athletic options, such as and even Gray - well, I do not know if we need to have him on the field to simply be an option or decoy. I am tired of decoys with Spiller. I want an offense predicated on making impact plays using key matchups and exploiting dominance by pure talent. I want to put guys on the field in positions that are power football and able to execute the simple plays that good teams make. Fwiw, Harvin is 5'11 184. Goodwin 5'10 181.
QuoteTheRaven83 Posted April 5, 2015 Posted April 5, 2015 You sign a player so he can contribute on the field No sht. You also sign players so they can help develop young players and I'm sure Wayne can still play.

I'm sure you see a difference. And either way, are wise enough to realize he's not getting 6m to be just a returner and decoy
QuoteTheRaven83 Posted April 5, 2015 Posted April 5, 2015 Woods is a much better WR and a much more polished WR than Harvin will ever be. Some people here still underestimate Woods and I see him going into the season as the number 2.

He is far from Goodwin, Graham or any just speedster. What I do not see is how we are going to implement this style of football with the skillset we have and put all the weapons on the field to utilize everything.

I suspect they will move Harvin around and possibly Sammy too. along with Clay, and possibly McCoy . But i dont see the taking Woods or Watkins off the field much

You'll see quickly he excels at using guys with Harvin's skillset. Harvin is probably the number 3 weapon on offense, make no mistake.

In a single thread you have gone from "I wouldn't be surprised to see him cut" to wow, this guy will make a difference.
