American Apparel has stirred up quite the controversy for decking out its mannequins with very visible patches of untamed pubic hair. As of this morning, the storefront at the retailer's East Houston location in New York features three mannequins clad in transparent white underwear, exposing their unkempt bikini lines and stopping window shoppers dead in their tracks. But while some Twitter users have labeled the exhibition 'kinda pervy', the retailer has defended it by saying it is intended to start a conversation about society's concept of feminine beauty. The Real Buffalo Joe Posted March 31, 2015 Posted March 31, 2015 Why do all of these companies all of a sudden feel this need to "start a conversation" about some sort of social issue? Just be honest. The real reason is to start a conversation about their own company. Same as the Starbucks race thing.
DC Tom Posted March 31, 2015 Posted March 31, 2015 And yet, the only conversation it starts is "Why are you stuffing a dead mink down the mannequin's panties?" That display was set up by someone who's never seen a woman's pubic hair.
dib Posted March 31, 2015 Posted March 31, 2015 Well then, what about zits, boils, bruises and scars? You want reality, then get real. Sort of like these anti wrinkle creams that are advertised, use wrinkled women not 20 year old models.

Sort of like these anti wrinkle creams that are advertised, use wrinkled women not 20 year old models. But that wouldn't be controversial, nor get as much publicity for the company. I mean the issue.

bbb Posted March 31, 2015 Posted March 31, 2015 I've wondered in the last 15 years or so - why do the mannequins need nipples?!?
snafu Posted March 31, 2015 Posted March 31, 2015 They could have sent the same message with armpit and leg hair.
Russ Posted March 31, 2015 Posted March 31, 2015 So much for landing strips...looks like it's back to the days of the bush pilot. Maybe there'll be less teenage pregnancy with the added ability to "stick the landing," so to speak.
