I'd give up a late round pick. I think you may have a better off drafting someone @ 50 then trading for this guy.

We tried that last year and results so far aren't very encouraging. Whaley hasn't proven himself to be the best talent evaluator when it comes to OL. If we get Evans for a reasonable price (5-6th rounder) and $5-6 MM/yr, then we can truly go BPA at #50. And then I am okay if Whaley thinks that is an Olineman as the risk will be fairly low

Welp

@GregBensel: Saints extend contract of Jahri Evans one year and sign CB Kyle Wilson to a one-year contract.

Doesn't mean he's not still available...could be that nobody wants to take his cap hit. They may have extended him with the idea that he'll be easier to move.

It's possible but I doubt it. They traded Grubbs already (who was bad last year). I don't see them dumping both starting guards.

typically, the way that happens is you let teams negotiate their own deals. i think its a pretty solid sign hes sticking in nola.

He was essentially scheduled to make $7.5 million this year and $8.7 million next year, but none of it was guaranteed. $3.5 million of his original bonus was gonna hit the Saints cap this eyar and $1.5 million next. The extension pretty much tells me that he's getting a bunch of guaranteed money. Just how much is really the question. If the Saints did part ways with him before the start of this year, they take a $5.0 million hit no matter what. At this point, I think he stays put.

OT but from that same tweet I think it's interesting that Rob Ryan is picking up Kyle Wilson after he was pretty much a disaster for Rex with the Jets. Rex must have given Rob some positive feedback on him. Or he was just cheap depth. Probably the latter.

hes at best the 3rd cb there, and they are lacking depth at CB behind the starters. i think its just a "lets take a shot and see what happens" signing.

Pass, just draft a guard in round 2 or wait for the Saints to cut him. The team can't afford the cap hit and I doubt Evans would agree to restructure. But if Evans gets cut make a play for him.

He, literally this morning, signed a new deal

He's probably still technically available for the right price but they don't seem to want/need to get him off the books anymore so it would take more than i am sure the Bills are willing to offer. Next.

I gotta agree with this.

I think Whaley is having an inner battle with himself to when it comes to some of the talent he drafted last year. Kinda like 'well if a vet is available for the right price i will sign him, if not go to the draft and with the guys i have'.

To me it is the last position needing an upgrade, but i also have no real insight on the second year guys or what Kromer and Roman feel they have there.

Nah I doubt it. Why would he agree to such terms with a team he wouldn't be playing for. Face it odds are he isn't available.

Restructure Mario!

If we can make the cap work I would take him. BUT, restructuring Mario is not the way to make the cap work for this move. I believe we can re sign Dareus no matter what IF we use restructuring Mario in our back pocket. If we use it early it might be the first time I think we risk the future. That being Dareus or losing other players at Evans expense. I guess gaining Evans and cutting him after a year or restructuring could be an option? What does $8.7 dead money do to our cap if we cut him next year. And, is that worth a 5 the round pick?
