Kirby Jackson Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 It looks like he will become a FA: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/03/17/philip-rivers-wont-sign-a-new-contract-before-his-current-one-expires/
EmotionallyUnstable Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 It seems intriguing but a lot depends on how this year plays out
NoSaint Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 Better start clearing cap space now. Still not a pressing issue.
Kirby Jackson Posted March 17, 2015 Author Posted March 17, 2015 If he hits the market the Bills are instant Super Bowl contenders. The cap space is available. I cannot cheer for a team to relocate after all that we have been through. If the Chargers do move this could be a nice silver lining though.

At 20m it's well worth it to have him his first year in a new city.
Augie Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 Better start clearing cap space now. Should we cut Clay?
Deranged Rhino Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 It looks like he will become a FA: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/03/17/philip-rivers-wont-sign-a-new-contract-before-his-current-one-expires/ This is one of the scenarios the front office is building towards. If not Rivers, another veteran QB who's hungry for a ring and wants to come to a loaded roster. But Rivers fits the ... bill ... better than the other options.

I wouldn't say that it is likely but he could try to force their hand a la Adrian Peterson.
billsfan89 Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 Teams never seem to let QB's become free agents look at Big Ben over in Pitt just got extended. I don't think San Diego will let Rivers hit the market.

BuffaloRebound Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 Interesting situation to watch. Rivers makes it sound like San diego to LA is going to happen.
Lurker Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 If he's reluctant to move up the road to LA, I can't see him uprooting the family to play in Buffalo for a couple of years...
Max997 Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 I've said a few times that I would not be surprised if Rivers would be made available this offseason since he is in the last year of his contract and is closer to the end of his career then the beginning. He may be easier to get now in a trade then waiting until next year in free agency especially with SD not really considered a serious playoff contender.
Kirby Jackson Posted March 17, 2015 Author Posted March 17, 2015 As an aside can you imagine how many pages the Phil Rivers FA thread will be if he hits the market? I am going to say 200 pages (minimum).

Mr. WEO Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 He's been backed by a top a 10 D 3 times in the last 5 years (#1 in 2010). This has resulted in 1 playoff year, 1 playoff win. Besides, why would SD let him go?
