Losers: Eagles coaches (Part II)

With the Patriots forced to punt with 55 seconds left, why did the Eagles decide to not send anyone deep to field it? Patriots punter Josh Miller was able to slowly and safely pooch-kick the ball, which the Patriots easily downed inside the 5-yard line. Philly would have had to march 60 yards just to try an impossibly long field goal to tie the game.

Even if you instructed the punt returner to not field the ball, his decoy would have forced Miller to make a play and perhaps kick it through the end zone. Reid's way stacked the odds against the Eagles coming back for a tie or victory.

They'll be talking about this forever in Philadelphia, too.

I deleted the TiVo SB, but I know the announcers said there was no one back. When I saw it though, I saw Westbrook back- he let it sail over his head. Again, I know the announcers said no one was back, but I think that was wrong. Maybe someone can confirm.

Another one of the many ridiculous moves (non move?) made by Reid and the Philly coaching staff. Not using timeouts on last drive of first half, lack of no-huddle in late 4th quarter. I mean this is a seasoned coaching staff and some of their decisions were just mind blowing for the biggest game of their careers.

Yet another thing that Bill Parcells used to harp on. I remember him ripping one of the young Giants' players after a game and reinserting a veteran for the job because "catching punts" generally saves a team 10 yards+ per.

Stupid, stupid, stupid.

I saw the player back there too, and thought that the announcers messed up yet again. Kinda like saying that Eugene Wilson probably had a shoulder injury when he did exactly the same thing that Milloy did in preseason -- wrapping his forearm around a leg while trying to trip up a player. Did anyone Tivo it and replay it -- not quite a Krumrie, but got close.

I was doing the math with the clock during the end of the game, crunching the numbers. The risk by going with the onsides seemed way out of wack with what was happening. The odds leaned heavily to the defense stopping NE with a 3 and out, which it did anyway!

Why the onsides?. Even while the Iggles were playing slow the last 4:00 minutes, I still had them pegged with two possessions before the game ended, which they did anyway!

Also: The first Iggle score almost seemed to take people by surprise! It took forever, even one of the announcers said that NE could have been called for defensive holding on the play. Do you think if the pass fell incomplete, they would have called it? Hell no! This is NE we are talking about!

I came very close to putting money on the "New England will score first" prop, but to win $100 you had to risk $170. Made sense because NE had a great run of scoring first.

Glad I laid off it.

I was thinking the same thing! I had a gut feeling that the loser would score first (which would more than likely be Philly).

no way.

with the onsides kick you have 2 chances:

1) get the kick

2) stop them and have long drive

with the deep kick you only have one chance, and a first down loses the game.

I would agree if there was a little more time on the clock. That long drive would require most likely over 80 yards in 45 seconds with no time outs. Really #2 was no chance, IMO.
